TA Adjustment

How do you adjust for the right angle on a chassis mounted torque arm?

And what is a good angle for more of a straight line car?

camaroAL 01-16-2009 06:01 AM

-2to -3 degrees of pinion angle

LTb1ow 01-16-2009 10:20 AM

How do you measure that?

WildBillyT 01-16-2009 10:25 AM

With a magnetic angle finder. http://www.jegs.com/i/Competition+En.../5020/10002/-1

should have came with the tq arm if you bought it new

LTb1ow 01-16-2009 11:14 AM

Nah I bought it used off of a guy that is swapping out the stock rear for a 9inch. So no luck :(

deadtrend1 01-16-2009 11:21 AM

ok, well, I've seen them in stores. Can't remember what ones. Harbor Freight, Sears, or even like a welding supply shop might have one.

LTb1ow 01-16-2009 11:23 AM

Ok so its nothing that needs to be crazy exact?

NJSPEEDER 01-16-2009 01:30 PM

It is like anything else if you are setting a car up to perform, close will work, exact will work better.

The driveway method I was taught is fairly simple. Find yourself a reasonably level piece of ground(to be safe), driveway, parking lot, whatever. Jack the car up and support it by the suspension on both ends. Now use a angle finder to set the pinion to the same angle as the driveshaft.

Through travel the pinion angle will change, zero'ing it to the DS will put the least strain on components.

You going to the dinner on Monday Tim?

sweetbmxrider 01-16-2009 03:26 PM

tuesday?

LTb1ow 01-16-2009 03:29 PM

That too.

98tadriver 01-16-2009 04:41 PM

i read a thing on tech from madman or somebody else that knows suspension. you do like tim said, but take the ds out and measure the pinion angle of the rear itself. set it to -2.5 to -3 degrees (pointed down)and youre good to go

LTb1ow 01-16-2009 05:14 PM

Wait, I have to remove the drive shaft ?
