no heat!

ok guys my sister just told me her car isnt getting heat. its a 94 camaro 3.4 i just went outside to check it out. car is up to temp and is blowing out cold air. idk if its the heater core thats clogged or bad control head. what do you guys think?

deadtrend1 01-26-2009 10:30 PM

The dexcool in my 96 had a habit of clogging in the core. I just shot water from a hose through it and it cleared it out.

Make sure that the selector switch moves the flap in the heater box

i think hers just takes the standard green coolant. and how can i tell if the selector is opening the flap?

Heater core sounds like its clogged. Like Tim said, run some hose water through it in both directions.

Make sure the coolant level is where it's supposed to be, it is a 60 degree V6...

it is green. see if you can't feel the heater hoses. if one is real hot and the other is colder, its clogged. revving the car should force coolant through and give you some heat. you should hear the blend door moving if you switch from the cold to hot side or hot to cold.

ok thanks guys

emolineaux 01-27-2009 06:58 PM

well the car had very little if any coolant in it. i started it up and it looks like the coolant is leaking down onto the k member. looks to be one of the metal heater hose lines that is rusted and leaking

sweetbmxrider 01-27-2009 10:23 PM

you should probably fix the low coolant light too.

well i told her to bring it to the shop in the morning if its not bad out. so hopefully she listens to me because i told her she will overheat the engine if she hasnt already
