'service engine' light ?
 

a couple months back i threw some LTs on my 99 LS1. did a cat-less TSP Y.so, i knew i was going to throw a "service engine soon" light.my original plan was to go to SLP and have them tune it out(since theyre a 15 min drive from me), but i can access to a handheld tuner...im suspecting it to be an HP or some bs.its coming from a 00 t/a.

question 1 - can i use a handheld to get rid of the code?...even if i do have to keep re-doing it to keep the light off.
question 2 - since its coming from an 00 car.am i going to be able to use it on my 99.i thought the years for HP went 98-00, and than 01-02...but i could be wrong.

any input on this would help guys.

If you get a scanner, yes you can scan all the cars. Anything with an OBD2 port you can scan.

If you get a programer, it will only be good for one car.

Not sure until you know exactly what hendheld it is. Not sure it'll get rid of the ses either. Does it really bother you that much?

When I had my hypertech handheld programmer, it only worked for my year (2000). The model years were 98-99, 2000, then 01-02. The only handheld scanner that I have heard of to delete rear O2's is the predator.

If you have a handheld scanner, then you would have to delete the code everytime you start the car. You should look into getting O2 sims to get rid of the SES.

For the pricetag of the handhelds. I would just spend the few dollars more for HP Tuners.

And usually the handhelds get VIN locked to one car so if you borrow one, its useless.

You would likely be better off with our software for the new extra dollars(if you have a laptop) and it'll give you an excellent scan tool to boot.

If the scanner can read codes then it should be able to clear them. It will reset you system readiness tests and the codes will keep coming back everytime the cat efficiency test runs.

I don't think SLP will tune a cat-less car for the street after what the EPA did to caspers http://www.epa.gov/oecaerth/resource...per-fcsht.html most companies won't mess with cheating OBD2 emmissions.
