LT1 Intake
So im looking for an intake for a little more power an response and to get rid of my stock restrictive oem intake. Any one have a suggestion? i looked at the ws6store.com an they had a few but i really dont see the difference except each one varies on power ratings. Whats the best for the money??

To just bolt on and go, the only company really is Edelbrock with their Air Gap ones. You could have someone port your stock one.
Also, I really doubt you will notice a gain with a new manifold, unless you have other mods done to it. I'm still running stock untouched heads, manifold and throttle body on my LT1... |

If so ... The SLP one looks nice and all, but the damn thing got so hot. Its pricey cause its ... yep ... SLP. I think its now around $250.00. I think the K&N one is a tad on the ugly side, but its effective. I think the moroso one it the best. But if I were you, I would try and find a used one to save some coin. |
i've seen ls1 lid conversions... i'd look into that.
|
Thats an option, but is it really worth it over a CAI?
You have to make the ls1 stuff fit, and cut the rad. support. Some guys are cutting the core support and laying the lid right on top of the radiator! Unless you get a different hood to fit it like it is on an LS1... |
LSX style is just more effective. Takes out what, two bends? Straight shot into the engine.
|
Find a used setup on Ebay or LS1tech. They all do about the same in terms of air flow increase and performance.

Well apparently GM thought they did and got rid of that setup. ;)

If your taliing intake, stay away from edelcrap. Tyey suck. Ported stocker all the way

Nope, it was shown on a dyno to lose HP compared to the stocker. I don't remeber exactly what they changed in the intake but I think it was plenum volume for some strange reason. Anyway, you can bounds farther with a ported stocker and ported stock heads, than buying the "LT4 conversion nonsense".
|
The plenum in the edelbrock is significantly smaller than the stock intake. It was the 'design sacrifice' to make it an 'air gap' design.
That's why the manifold doesn't perform well. The stock LT1 manifold does better when the plenum is enlarged, casting a new manifold with a too-small plenum is just... well... stupid is the word that comes to mind. |
as everyone has said; for cai, they are all the same really. whatever looks best to you. used would be ideal too. intake plenum, ported stock is most effective especially when it comes to price. i wouldn't do anything to it unless you are doing heads/cam/throttle body.
