Just applied!

Just sent in my applications to Rowan, NJIT, and Rutgers for mechanical engineering. Woot!

Actually getting somewhere!

Now just gotta wait for responses.

MonmouthCtyAntz 02-07-2009 05:46 PM

Good luck man...

NJSPEEDER 02-07-2009 05:48 PM

Rowan for engineering? I thought they were a education major kind of school?

NJIT and Rutgers are both good schools. You should take a shot at Princeton while you are at it. They have one of the best ME programs in the country.

Are you only looking in state? Roger Penske went to Drexel right in Philly and if you are interested in traveling a bit further, Ohio State has the most diverse engineering programs in the country.

sweetbmxrider 02-07-2009 05:50 PM

nice matt good luck. did you look at stevens?

Jensend 02-07-2009 05:55 PM

"Mr. Rowan" endowed the former Glassboro State College with something over $100 million dollars with the stipulations that it develop a reputable engineering program, become a university, and (surprise!) come up with a new name to reflect its shift from being a "teacher's college". Their engineering program has been gathering some respect recently.

NJSPEEDER 02-07-2009 06:09 PM

Didn't know that. Never see them listed when I read Formula SAE and Buggy results.

LTb1ow 02-07-2009 06:10 PM

Yea Rowan is top of the list but I prob will not be accepted. And I plan on staying in state, I want to keep my bills to a minimum. But yea, I am excited to be getting out of community college and finishing things up.

College degree = good job = more go fast parts

NJSPEEDER 02-07-2009 06:13 PM

Is there a particular part of the field you are looking to get into? Automotive? Production? Stress analysis?

ME is a great field because it is versatile.

LTb1ow 02-07-2009 06:15 PM

Not at the moment, I have yet to have any real hands on classes yet so I can't really narrow it down. All of my classes have been math/physics type with no real life labs. But yea, MechE is the best out of the engineering fields.

Congrats and good luck. I love it here at RU.

Rowan is ranked 14th in the nation for mechanical engineering. but I would not try an enter the engineering program as a transfer...they will screw you and start you as a freshmen

LTb1ow 02-07-2009 06:38 PM

Nah, state schools are required to start you as a junior if you complete the associates from a community school.

KirkEvil 02-07-2009 06:42 PM

Haha, whatever you say. I am seeing this happen.

LTb1ow 02-07-2009 06:43 PM

Ah well, like I said, me getting into Rowan is a long shot.

KirkEvil 02-07-2009 06:44 PM

yeah, you will probably end up teaching high school physics

LTb1ow 02-07-2009 06:46 PM

As long as it pays the bills.

KirkEvil 02-07-2009 06:48 PM

youll have to sell the LT1 and buy a honda...the prius is too far outa budget

LTb1ow 02-07-2009 06:49 PM

So doubting, you will have a year start to get your LS1 to be faster and then its all over.

Correct on all accounts.

LTb1ow 02-07-2009 08:31 PM

Yea I am gonna be a jr. and hopefully live off campus. I am done with the whole college life nonsense.

Jensend 02-07-2009 09:22 PM

It's worth checking into the specific details of your status as a transfer. My son transferred from a CC to a four year State college. He had a 3.92 GPA and 63 credits at the CC. The state school "accepted" 61 credits. When he registered, it was explained that although his 61 credits were accepted, the college had a requirement that a minimum of 25% of all core courses had to be taken at the state school. The result, an extra 1-2 semesters required to meet the core course requirement and receive a degree. He will graduate as a 3 or 4 semester Senior. It's a tuition enhancement scam many schools use. Be sure you know the fine print.

Blackbirdws6 02-07-2009 09:25 PM

Good luck! If it interests you, try to get involved in energy since that is the real hot button these days and I imagine will be around for quite a few years.

Let me know if you need any info on RU engineering. In most cases, you won't get that much "hands on" unless you join an organization or get an interesting internship.
