car wont start

its my everyday driver with 78K miles . i was driving to new brunwik to pick up a tire for my job . my coolant gauge was showing too hot when i got there . one my way back i stoped at a gas station and checked all the fluids . to find out that i pretty much had no oil. weird cuz i had checked it 2 weeks earlier and it was find . coolant was a little low but still good. i got all the way home but it was making a weird noise like a valve tap at high rpms. got to work everything fine. 15 mins before i was done i went and heated up my car . driving it out of the parking lot i heard a loud pop. and the car shut off. i cranked it and it sounded like if it only turn half a turn and that was it . it did not want to turn at all afterwards it sounds like if the started wants to turn the motor over but something is not letting it . like a wrench between gears or something like that. any ideas what i have to do to get it fixed or is it better to just swap. money is a little tight like always but i want to do the job right.

So you drove it with no oil it and now are wondering why its seized?

try turning the motor over by hand. either pulling on the belt or a wrench on the crank or something along those lines. your scenario sounds catastrophic!

yea man. sounds like something let go by your description. The "valve tap" that you heard may have been a warning sign coming from the bottom end.

Convert to a 350 TPI. I got all the stuff needed!

yea im picking up a new motor on friday just to get it moving , i know that its my fault but wanted to know if its worth savaging the motor. i want to rebuild it back to stock , but i guess its going to have to have a 350 for a while no complains

Personally, I wouldn't bother rebuilding the 305 unless you are a fanatic about keep the car stock. Although depending on just how bad the damage done is, your original block might be unsalvageable anyway.
