2000 Saturn SL1 oil leak

Any one know of if these cars have problem areas with oil leaks? Just changed the oil/filter (fuucking dealer asshats had the filter on there tight ) and noticed a leak above the starter area. Not sure of what is up there so if any one has any experiance with these cars please speak up.

the only thing I can think of that leaks around the starter is if you pulled the dipstick tube out to install headers, and the dipstick tube wasn't re-installed correctly

LTb1ow 02-12-2009 05:20 PM

The dipstick goes in the front of the engine though.... starter is on the back.....

u think maybe possibly you have a bad valve cover gasket in the back where you cant see it?

LTb1ow 02-12-2009 06:03 PM

Nope its lower than the valvecover.

LTb1ow 02-12-2009 06:24 PM

camaros_4life34 02-12-2009 06:33 PM

lol ok well as far as i know there isnt really nething back there you could have a bad head gasket my buddy bobby had that issue on his when he had one a couple yrs ago if its not a valve cover or head gasket idk what else it could be.

LTb1ow 02-12-2009 06:51 PM

Ah that would be ****ingg fantastic. Never done a head gasket on a saturn before.... I guess I will do some tests this weekend.

SamhainZ28 02-12-2009 06:53 PM

 when I first read it I thought it was a typo too

um, well my family has an sl1... i said family because its kinda like a car that everyone drives... i can look around the engine a little bit if i drive it this weekend, i know we replaced the head gasket on it at around i think 100k miles, that was caused by a dexcool thing im pretty sure, i would think you would know if it was a head gasket because of overheating and foamy coolant. how low does it get?

I have some oil leak detection dye if you want to try it. You mix it in with the oil and use a black light to check around where it's leaking from.

i'll look some things up at work monday if you remind me. is the oil pressure sensor up there?

Triple-A 02-14-2009 08:28 PM

Last time I was checking out oil leak on SL1 ... it was cracked head.
may be oil filter? (if i remember right)its on the back of the engine.

good luck!
Alex.

The oil pressure sensor was what I was thinking cause its above the oil filter.
