Wharton Trip PICS

Took a trip thru wharton today and figured I would share some pics. We were mainly looking for the Paper Mill.
We started at atson ranger station and headed toward basto. We came upon this old foundation off of washington turnpike.

We the headed over to bear swap hill where in 1971 a supersonic jet traveling at 1300mph struck a fire tower while buzzing the trees. The wreck slid thru the swamp for about 1/4 of a mile.

I dont know too much of the history. Bear swamp hilll was destryoed in 71 when a super sonic jet struck the fire tower at 1300 mph and slid 1/4of a mile thru the swapt taking out 900 trees along the way the wreck was left in the woods and that langing gear is all that is left now but is slowly sinking into the swamp. The mill I have no idea. The cranberry pump was used to pump cranberries up from the bog. The old foundation was a tavern. Wharton state forest was purchased by Mr. Wharton because it has natural springs and he wanted to pump the water ti Philly so I could be sold, but he was not permitted to do so, so he donated the land to the state.

Pretty cool stuff, I remember seeing a bunch of foundations for buildings when we we're in that area wheeling. I'd love to do some exploring there someday!

yeah me and my parents went and found the mill when we went trailin awhile back it was definetly cool as hell. where is that plane wreckage at?! Do you know the coordinates to get there? my dad would be excited as hell to see that.

Tru2Chevy 02-16-2009 04:34 PM

Nice pics.

Do you have coordinates or general directions for any of these?

- Justin

B4C 02-16-2009 07:12 PM

My friend has all the coordinates but people generally wolnt share them out of fear that they will fall into the wrong hands and then no one will be able to enjoy these places because of vandals. Some of the stuff is already fenced in and the brick factory is littered w/ paint ball stuff.

Teds89IROC 02-16-2009 08:36 PM
