me and my bro lost our sponsor

sorry to say after 42 years in business dayton auto parts and speed equipt. is closing.
butch the owner is a great friend to our family , but unfortunately will probably not live another year. he has many health issues and does not want to burden his wife and daughter with the grief of continuing business, so he is closing shop. he supported alot of racers and car clubs and did many auto mag articles, along with articles for his church. its heartbreaking to hear from a friend that he is not going to survive another year. anyhow visit dayton auto speed before saturday the 21'st and u may be able to score some good deals.

Sad to hear, I used to do a lot of business with Dayton Auto parts and Butch was a great guy to talk to when waiting for stuff. Sad to hear, they've been around for ever and are pretty well known.

Thats sad, did he try to sell the business or anything? or does he just want to get rid of it?

camaroAL 02-18-2009 09:36 PM

he is selling the building and just doing away with the business. he is more heartbroken over closing than he is about his health. he and his family devoted their lives to that place,7 days a week 7am to 7pm mon thru fri and sat 7am -3pm. they were at work more than they were home.

sorry to hear about you losing your sponsor but most of all sorry about your friend. thats sad.

wretched73 02-18-2009 09:38 PM

I hear ya, running your own business is an enormous amount of work, sorry it had to go like that

This sucks to hear but it totally sounds like he could sell the business with all the reputation his shop has

if offered the right $ amount im sure he would, just so he knew his family would be taken care of.

sucks to hear about his health. this is why i dont race weekly, too expensive without sponsors.

Teds89IROC 02-20-2009 07:31 PM

That's sad to hear, my family and others have done a lot of business with them.

I'll have to make a mention of it at the banquet tomorrow. sorry to hear :( They've been an advertiser with the track for probably 20 years.

sad to see another local speed shop close. i hope your friend makes out good with selling as many parts as he can. im sure another speed shop would buy his bulk of left overs. and being in business for 42 years. im sure in the back somewhere there are vintage hard to find parts.

welcome to the wal-mart syndrome. Although I'm sure his health played a big part in this decision, younger generations just don't appreciate "local speed shops" when they can just go to pep boys, advanced, auto zone, etc and deal with people who know nothing but what the computer tells them. These places aren't "speed shops" but they take away the bread and butter for small business parts stores. Auto manufacturers are equally to blame. Who's going to need to go to a parts store when they have a 5 or 10 year warranty? Those warrantys are just to keep you going back to the dealer

you said it diva!

Right now,I just cracked one open to Butch. Never met the guy, but I wish him and his family the best. When I was a kid I remember going to BenPilla on the weekend with my Dad to shoot the $#it, and hang out, and guys trading tips @ parts and tricks to run faster. When the 8 track in my z/28 stopped working, I took it to Suburban Auto Radio in Oaklyn. Why, you ask? Because my Dad graduated with the owner, who was the guy that installed that radio in the car in the first place. Mike got it running like it did when he installed it origionally and it's still working today. You can't get that kind of service with the chains today. Support your local speed shop!

Well said Diva...I totally agree with you.
