97-98 m3

so theres this kid at my school that is talking all kinds of crap about how his beamer is so much faster then my car. does anyone know if it really is? we're talking about going to the track and lining up. he says all he has is cat back exhaust. i have a 96 z28 with borla catback k&n intake and will have 373s and pacesetter lts before i go to the track. he dynoed his car at school and made like 240hp and 220ft lbs or torque. what do you guys think?

Mike 02-20-2009 01:49 PM

you will find out when you get to the track......too many factors to guess

Tsar 02-20-2009 02:03 PM

Damn highschooler. Both of you suck. Now get on with your life.

Mike's answer is correct. Tsar's answer is amusing.

Need a driver?

BurninrubberGT 02-20-2009 02:46 PM

id put my money on you, you will have more power, but you never know on the track (mis shifts/hookin on the line, temp, track prep)

BonzoHansen 02-20-2009 02:48 PM

With a good driver I'll take the camaro in a straight line and the M3 everywhere else.

Mike 02-20-2009 03:13 PM

that's not an answer. that's what some guy in a bmw did. that's not the car in question, and dosent account for either of the drivers in question

On paper, your car is quicker and faster, but races don't happen on paper.

Just make it a fun rivalry race, don't get hung up in a lot of BS, and let it end at the track. We are only a week or so away from Island and the other tracks around the region opening up. Get yourself to the track and get some practice in. :drive:

Hmmm...my friend has a bolton 99 M3 + full suspension. He thinks like low 14.2-14.4 on street tires. It's a screamer and corner carver, not meant to be a drag car. But they are light.

creeper 02-20-2009 04:58 PM

is your car an a4 or m6?

Mike 02-20-2009 05:06 PM

auto

really? I always thought they were about the same as fourth gens, maybe a little heavier.

Frosty 02-21-2009 07:56 AM

Unless you 'tard out at the line there's NO reason you should lose this race.

don't know what kinda dyno you have at school or what correction factor was used but the first 4 guys in that thread and many others had more than just an exhaust and made less power. he might have a little more than just an exhaust. nothing major though.

either way i think you still have him as long as you don't destroy the launch

Mike 02-21-2009 11:18 AM

three out of the 4 are 1995 obd1 cars and the other (1998) only dynoed 2 less hp than his friends

creeper 02-21-2009 12:30 PM

didn't know the OBDI and II's were different engines sorry. 240 is still a little high for an exhaust only though. could be the dyno or correction factor used, just saying there's a possibility he has a few more mods.

Mike 02-21-2009 12:32 PM

same engine. different output ratings, and different reactions to the tuning. the obd1 cars dont like bolt ons as much, but seem to love boost more than the 96-99 cars

creeper 02-21-2009 12:40 PM

i see, that's interesting

black95maro 02-21-2009 10:05 PM

hmm I'm leaning towards he does have more mods but isn't sharing them. but seems like once i do a few things to my car or maybe even the way it is now I should have him.

creeper 02-21-2009 10:12 PM

at least you know how much power he put down, so you know there's not gonna be any major surprises
