Rough idle and possible misfiring under load

Hey guys

So my car starting running really rough on my way to work the other morning. And it sounds like its mis firing when i give it gas. I had similar issue a few months back and i figured out it was the vacuum kick back for the choke.

I replaced that as well as did plugs, wires, cap and rotor and now a few months later its running like crap again. Im really banging my head on this one so any help is good help ha

thanks

im trying to figure out if the timing chain jumped a tooth or if its the carb because im 90% sure its not spark

if the timing had jumped, your previous repairs wouldn't have fixed it. I'm assuming this is happening to you 180K mile LG4? is the problem constant or only when its warm? only under load or even when idling? any other problems with the car or parts recently replaced?

well i checked the timing and its dead on so i can cross that out...and the you can hear that something is off at idle but when you put it in drive the thing just chugs and bounces but never stalls. Under throttle it would get even more violent.
Im starting to suspect the cat but ive only seen cats cause issues when they warm up and this issue is when its cold or warm
The cats a 2 year old magnaflow

Other than what ive already said i havent replaced any engine parts

maybe the carb?

Predator86 03-17-2009 05:38 PM

I figured it out

One of the clips that hold the spark plug wires together on the drivers side broke and a couple of them swung down and burnt on to the manifold causing them to arc into each other and raise all sorts of hell.

Its odd that i missed it for so long being that that was the first thing i checked.

Thanks for the help anyway guys....ya cant fix my stupidity tho lol

look on the bright side, at least it was something simple :)
