Glass vs. lexan ttops

I have both for the GTA, which are better and why?

My 3 other 3rdgens had glass, never had lexan.

Which ones should I use?

alamantia 03-11-2009 02:23 PM

Lexan are obvioulsy lighter, but the 3rd gen T-tops had a problem delaminating, GM issued a bulliten stating that any customer who came in to a dealer complaining of the lexan delaminating (spots of the protective coating flaking off) that glass ones would be issued to the customer to replace the lexan ones. I like the look of the glass ones, they were less squeeky, but due to their weight I never raced with them and in the summer time whei i took the t-tops on and off it was easier to place the lexan ones in the bag, lexan was lighter so they didnt rip teh bag up as much either.

lexan gets fadded cracked and scratched, but glass are heavier... id go glass personaly

i have both for my camaro...the lexan are a lot lighter, but they look faded and scratched. the glass are a lot heavier. i like the look of the glass better

Ya know, I haven't even looked at the lexan ones, they're still in the bag. I guess I should look at them and see what shape they're in...I personally like the look of the glass but I'll check out the condition of the lexan

If the lexan is in good shape, you should either run them for the weight reduction, or if you don't care about that, then sell 'em. Lexan tops in good shape can be sold for decent money.

Glass looks so much better.

NastyEllEssWon 03-11-2009 05:30 PM

go with the lexan ones. i have a set of lexan tops (no hardware) under my living room couches. never did use them lol

Check to see which ones are in better shape and use them. The glass has the advantage of being able to have imperfections polished out, lexan is vastly lighter if you are concerned with racing.

The lexan tops on my old 92 used to squeek insanely! I broke down and bought glass tops, fixed the problem lol.
