New Camaro has its work cut out for it

Because the Mustang is kicking ass! I can gladly say, that it is finally a good time to be in the market for new and affordable RWD performance. Not that I am, but check out this article!

Meh...new candy shell, same garbage underneith.

bubba428 03-14-2009 09:54 AM

well unfortunatly big gay all, its those people that buy the car for the looks and pretty shiney that are going to keep them around for the people that actually car about the car from a performance aspect

sweetbmxrider 03-14-2009 11:21 AM

plus they have the assurance thing goin on. hyundai is being rather smart in this economy IMO.

BigAls87Z28 03-14-2009 12:32 PM

If that the one with the new Z it apparently blew away the mustang. And I believe that the price for the mustang was near 35k.

BurninrubberGT 03-14-2009 03:53 PM

the gt's are still slow, what else is new

NJSPEEDER 03-14-2009 04:06 PM

I think the reasonably priced sports/muscle market is the going to be the best it has been in decades. The foreign brands are getting involved and there is definitely some good stuff coming from all the marques now.

Someone else finally thinks the same way!

MonmouthCtyAntz 03-14-2009 10:55 PM

the new car is almost identical to the 05 up 3v gt...looks like they might actually be able to hang w/ some late 90's ls1 tech lol.

drivetrain is the same. and thats fine, its adequate. the suspension has been redone and the car can now handle.

NJSPEEDER 03-15-2009 10:27 PM

As far as looks, I don't like the Mustang any more than I did before the revision. I am still waiting to read something from someone I trust or get to drive it myself to pass judgement on the upgraded chassis and suspension. Slight frame revisions are supposed to have it stiffer and the handling is supposed to be a lot better with a similar ride. We will see.

BigAls87Z28 03-15-2009 11:17 PM

Track package on the Mustang is supposed to be a big help, but once you factor in price, combined with the premium GT package, you get a 35k price tag. That puts you 4 grand north of an SS which comes with all that stuff and more, standard.

you are right. just saying it now has decent competition. and the camaro carries some extra weight that will need to be overcompensated for. i'm sure the camaro will be the victor anyway

i second this view. funny how the rustnags came first but they're always playing catch up with the camaro. i swear i saw a rustnags mag not too long ago saying something about Z06 killer on the cover. they can't hang with camaros, but they're going to shoot high enough to kill a Z06? doubtful.

wait... wait... wait... do you mean performance wise, or sales wise?
because if you mean performance, im pretty sure there was a time, say 5.0 vs. 3rd gen era, which counters what you just said... and sales wise, im pretty sure the mustang has been on top for the majority of the time, especially the last 7 years

Anti_Rice_Guy 03-16-2009 09:40 AM

He means strictly performance.

I'm not disagreeing, I'm merely clarifying. I happen to like some Mustangs, and have several friends with them.

while there might have been a time when BOOK number dictated the rustnag as a better performance vehicle, the fight is long from over. i won't debate book numbers with anyone, as it's easy to put out X number of horsepower - a much different story to get it to the ground. if there are numbers that prove stock vs. stock that the rustnag was a better performing vehicle, there are numbers to prove stock vs. stock with comparable drivers that the camaro was a better performing vehicle - no matter what track you put them on. that dang torque arm did wonders for the camaro.

if you are going to argue which vehicle was a better base for launching a performance vehicle in terms of modifications, i think the rustnag loses again. of course, that is my opinion, not stating it as fact.

except for the first and maybe second generation, i think the camaro beats the rustnag in the looks department, too. again, that's my opinion and i am not stating it as a fact.

also, need i remind you of the rustnag II? yeah, who stepped on their dingus with that one?

we both bring up some valid points so i will agree to disagree:cheers:
