Those are for a 3 series carrier. You have a 2 series.

Let me guess- You aren't getting proper tooth engagement- the gears don't "reach" each other?

12. What is a series 2 or series 3 carrier, and what do I have?

A 2 series carrier is a car that came with 3.08s or lower from the factory (i.e. all of your 2.73 cars). A 3 series carrier is a car that came with 3.23s or higher. This is very important when you order new gears, as they will differ from 2 to 3 series carrier!

Yep. Although the general consensus is that Motive and US Gear ring and pinion sets are quieter once installed.

If you have a few extra bucks replace it with ARP stuff.

sweetbmxrider 03-19-2009 05:09 PM

can i ask why 3.42's? i would consider replacing the bearings and axle seals while its apart.

maroman88 03-19-2009 05:17 PM

its my DD i just wanted a little better then 2:73's and didnt wanna kill my mileage.... the rest is getting taken care of

MonmouthCtyAntz 03-23-2009 07:29 AM

Yea id stay away from richmond, they whine like a baby and brake teeth...I know from 1st hand experiece...replaced them w/ GM motive never looked back.

maroman88 03-23-2009 09:23 AM

ive hed em in my 88 forever with no problem

LTb1ow 03-23-2009 12:33 PM

If your going 3.42s couldn't you pull some from a M6 car?

maroman88 03-25-2009 08:14 AM

thats wat i did... and that was the problem! series 2 vs series 3 carriers... so if anyone needs a set of 3:42's for a series 3, i have a set lol
