Free Anti-virus
 

What's everyone using? My AVG 7.5 keeps popping up and saying that after April 12thit wont get updated. It then prompts me to upgrade to 8.5, but there is no free version of AVG 8.5. So, what is everyone using?

i have 8.5.278 and it works fine, free also.

I'm using Avast.

AVG used to be good, I guess not anymore. After I installed Avast on my step dads comp it found 5 new viruses/trojans that AVG had no idea about.

8.5 is free, you must suck at finding links

true...I have 8.5 up and running now. I think the vicodin might have had an affect on me finding things this morning.:wink:

I have avira antivir, throughout the years ive had them all..after some research it rated the highest out of the freebies.

I'm not at all what you'd call computer literate...or even competent. I just recently ditched AVG for Avast. AVG let in a bunch of nasty trojans and left my computer in need of an exorcism. Avast hasn't let me down yet.

AVG doesn't let in crap. That would be a firewall, got one?

i have something called trend microscan. rutgers gives it out free to students so i loaded it to all my computers

Usually a firewall is used to keep hackers out of the computer, Anti-Virus should keep Viruses out of the computer even if the hackers get in via the internet.

A firewall isn't designed to detect viruses, a firewall detects unusual computer or network activity and blocks potential hackers from using backdoors to plant viruses. It is possible for viruses to slip past the firewall undetected.

Even if the firewall is breached, a great Anti-virus program should pick up any viruses, keeping in mind of course that at least 10 new viruses pop up every day, so trying to keep up with the virus technology I am sure can be quite interesting. Therefore it is possible that AVG was not able to detect the trojan horse viruses that destroyed poor 79T/As computer

Well, that's my 2.5 cents. Hope it helps out. I think that both AVG and Avast are great programs, but then again, Im one of the dummies who actually pay for Norton because it is a combined firewall / Antivirus all in one complete program (easier to update than two programs, and I can customize it)
