Cost of Torque Converter and Tranny Cooler Install?

Figuring $300-400... accurate? Got a quote from a LS1tech sponsor for 450.00, thought that might be a little high. What do you guys think?

Was 300 total for mine, don't forget fluids and what not.

Hit up our sponsors and see if they can do better...

Wow, nice

Installing a tranny cooler takes a few minutes, do it yourself. The TC, talk to the sponsors and see what brands and install prices they have. I will say that if you are getting a TC and install for that price, you are most likely getting a complete POS TC. Anything good would cost that much without install.

I do believe he already bought a fuddle so six months from now this thread will be pertinent. Until then, research.

I think the OP was looking for pricing on a converter install...

If you have a 4l60e make sure you get your shift points set and line pressure, so the car shifts right and firm, but not too firm. I had a sponsor from Tech do mine, I wouldve looked into one of our Sponsors here but I really didn't come on here that much back then. I paid $800 for the install of the T/C and install of the Cooler mounted dope style, and a Dyno tune, and that included all fluids and hoses. The job was clean and the Convertor performs flawlessly. If you can get it done by a good shop for $175, do it, I would have.

I just bought a 3200 stall off a company on ebay. The company makes custom stalls for people.
Me thinks they take your old one to use ,seem like they rebuild it with some new stuff at w.e stall you like and sell it to the next person in line. They claim everything is brand new except the casing/shell.
I did some googling a few guys have ran the converters in turbo diesal trucks putting down 300 to the wheels or so and had no problems with the converters. I hope I have the same luck.

Im doing my converter myself it seems pretty easy...since I have no motor in the car :)

OP Good luck tho

300 wheel horse is stock ls1 numbers... not too impressive if thats what they are claiming they hold up to.

Jersyboyy 03-30-2009 09:55 AM

Na thats what people who have used them through my research online have had in thier pickup trucks with these converters. I guess ill be the test dummy for the higher hp numbers on their converters now. I get a 1 yr warranty for ANY problems so we'll see if they keep their word on that.

sweetbmxrider 03-30-2009 09:59 AM

don't diesels benefit from a lower stall? since that is where they make the torque?

MonmouthCtyAntz 03-30-2009 03:10 PM

Got a nice quote from JS....Ill be getting it installed there. Have a few other bugs to work out first.

I would be hard pressed to pay attention to reviews from any diesel truck owner bragging about putting only 300 to the wheels. JMHO.....

I'll do it for two cases of beer and a cheese steak.

Those are some really good labor rates. I've been qoutes like 800 bucks. So I did it myself. I'm actually just finishing up my 4th converter install and my 2nd transmission.

Yea gonzo's a good guy, I got dirty and had some wrench time but he did most of the work. That was my first and I cant say it was fun, especially when we got the converter in and realized we didnt have any bolts. Thank god he had a few laying around that fit. Still owe him his 2 cases of Sams  .
