jumpy idle after bbk tb install

i installed my 80mm BBK TB and the idle likes to jump from 1000rpm to about 1500rpm constantly, sometimes its not as bad but it still surges. i checked for any leaks around the TB and all hoses... nada. the IAC is clean and appears to be functioning, any ideas?

check ur tps?

Does it have a hole drilled in it?

Did you check the bellows to make sure you didn't rip it? Any air getting in past the MAF will throw off the computer. The only other thing besides the tps is if the iac is cycling in and out. Did you disconnect the battery to let the computer reset itself?

i had to trim the smooth bellow down when i installed the TB, im pretty sure its sealed all around, i sprayed soapy water to see if it got sucked in anywhere.
i reset the computer a bunch of times, and i just installed a PCMforless tuned computer

well after looking at the TB blade, that hole drilled looked like it was done by a previous owner of the TB, i bought it used.... so i put a small screw in the hole and tightened everything up and the idle seems normal so far....
why would one dill a hole in there anyway!?!

KirkEvil 03-29-2009 01:40 PM

there is a hole in the blade so that the engine can pull in some air at idle. usually someone would drill another hole, or a bigger hole if you install a bigger cam. bigger cam=need for more air at idle

NJ Torque 03-29-2009 06:43 PM

thats why i asked ;)

its a half-assed way when your tuner cant get your car to idle.

so i checked my old TB and its got a hole also...
i plugged up the hole in the BBK and it idles normal again... weird

The hole is only needed if you have a bigger cam and it needs the extra air to maintain idle. What did you cover the hole with? You don't want anything that can fall off and get sucked into the engine. I would either send it back or trade it for one without a hole. The guy should have told you it had the hole drilled in it.
