auto radiator on manual car

I'm on the last steps of installing a new cooling set up on my 87 iroc. I have a rad thats made for an auto car...I have a manual car. will it leakfrom where the trans cooler line is supposed to go? thanks for any help in advance.

LTb1ow 03-28-2009 10:28 PM

It shouldn't, if its like mine, the tranny fluid is a separate part of the rad and if you don't use it, it just stays empty..

sweetbmxrider 03-28-2009 10:42 PM

no, it won't

madness410 03-28-2009 11:48 PM

is there anyway to test it before putting it in? id hate to fill the rad up just to take it out the next day because it leaks. i put a garden hose in it for a little bit and a little leaked out the hole

sweetbmxrider 03-28-2009 11:57 PM

its completely separate. you think people want tranny fluid mixing with their antifreeze? come on now! if something is leaking, its not because you don't have tranny lines hooked up. you can plug the fittings if you see fit. be it bolts or capped nuts or whatever. it won't affect anything though!

LTb1ow 03-28-2009 11:57 PM

Yea but the tranny cooler cools tranny fluid, they are separate from coolant... so you may have a leak in your rad.

sweetbmxrider 03-28-2009 11:59 PM

yeah i meant to say that but rambled. if you see water coming out of the tranny fittings, get a new radiator.

i will see how it plays out maybe my eyes were lieng to me.

Yup. Should be a seperate circuit. How new is the radiator?

i bought it off of 88irocvert...not sure how old it is, it doesnt look too bad

ZeroCool8891 03-29-2009 11:30 AM

the rad is brand new was in a car for a few hundred miles, took it out the car to do a griffin rad setup, never had a prob, and the car was also stick.

madness410 03-29-2009 07:19 PM

yeah it definitely leaks out of the bottom of the radiator where the trans cooler lines go. i need to get a new radiator then

LTb1ow 03-29-2009 07:21 PM

You sure they are tranny line hook ups? Could be something else.

madness410 03-29-2009 07:23 PM

could be..i just assumed they were because i heard that the rad was off an auto car. the holes it is leaking out from are holes under the bottom hose

sweetbmxrider 03-29-2009 07:29 PM

can you take a pic? sure it isn't the petcock, the radiator "drain plug" justtttt askin!

it could be...im pretty sure i remember 88irocvert saying it was an automatic radiator. it very well could be but it didnt come with plugs or anything for those holes

sweetbmxrider 03-29-2009 07:34 PM

well if its two holes and they are somewhat apart, its probably for tranny lines. a cell phone pic with a flash light will work fine

Tru2Chevy 03-29-2009 08:19 PM

Stock type 3rd gen radiator:

The two holes on the right side with the brass looking fittings are for the trans lines. The white / silver hole on the very bottom right is the drain petcock.

Which is yours leaking from?

dam i really wish i could snap a pic but its dark and raining out.

justin thanks for the pic...its definately one of the ones under the lower radiator hose. i know for a fact if it is the bottom one it wasnt a plug like that and was just an open hole. i remember there was also an outlet on the side of the radiator leading to another one of the holes. really hard to describe i will snap a pic tomorrow.
