Borg Warner 9 Bolt Question.

I'm trying to find out how much Torque/HP the stock 9 bolt was designed to handle....Yes I know they're weak rears.....So far I've gone to 9bolt.org,Googled it,etc.... no luck. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the gear ratio. What are you running, a 3.27?

It has 2.73 gears.

I am pretty sure 9 bolts only came with 2.77, 3.27, and 3.45 ratios.

Nine bolts aren't "that" weak. Getting parts for them is the biggest pain...

Can't help you with exact power figures, and I actually doubt there are any. There are so many variables that would determine when a rear is going to give out - vehicle weight, gears, auto / manual, power, tires, road / track surface, etc.

It is strong enough to not explode on street tires but weak enough that it will fall from posi power to one wheel peel in less than a season if you go to the track regularly

I have actually found a decent amount of parts for the rear through randy's ring and pinion. Such as the impossible to find 3.73 gear set for the 2.77 carrier, new posi units (big$$$$$) and bearing kits (can't get axles anywhere though). I've been reading up on this rear a lot because it's in my car already. My engine builder says they break axles because of the step down tube diameter and I've heard that if you weld the tube to the housing you can lower your chance of snapping the axle.

I'm not running a trans break but i am running MT DR's 255/50/16. Does any one have any experience with this rear and the mods I've outlined above?

P.S. I will be getting a Moser 9" next season, but i want to run the car this season and would like the 9 bolt to last through the year (that is unless i grenade it englishtown).
