Thoughts?

The car appears to be in nice shape, but I have seen far too many of that era Grand Ams have a lot of trouble. In the shop more than out.

LTb1ow 04-07-2009 05:05 PM

I am not familar with the gremlins that come with em, I thought it was a 3400/3800 engine but its not...

Adam, its for the GF.

baddest434 04-07-2009 05:11 PM

only 117k highway miles!! clean carfax!! no accident history! only 109k highway miles with clean carfax and no accident history!!

wait a few more days maybe the mileage will be even less

LTb1ow 04-07-2009 05:12 PM

Aha, nice, did not catch that one....

NjbadSS 04-07-2009 05:15 PM

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who picks up on things like this, but I'm on craigslist every single day and the person who has that grand am posted posts many cars every single day. You can tell because the setup of the ads are all identical, same location described, and same phone number, but with many different cars. He puts them on there all the time with F body cars and I've talked to him over the phone about a z28 he had posted. Seems like he could be a scammer or possibly has crappy cars he doctors up to sell. My brother has also talked to the guy and once you talk to him over the phone you can tell something just doesnt seem right

LTb1ow 04-07-2009 05:16 PM

Thanks a lot man!

sweetbmxrider 04-07-2009 05:16 PM

yeah i thought i saw something with the mileage but i figured i was delirious. don't know much about that motor but i agree with Justin, not all that great of a car.

LTb1ow 04-07-2009 05:19 PM

Ok so cancel this car, thanks guys really appreciate it, if you see anything nice below 5k let me know.

NjbadSS 04-07-2009 05:23 PM

are you looking for just a d.d? have any preferences?

LTb1ow 04-07-2009 05:23 PM

Just something that gets good MPG, and its decent looking.

GP99GT 04-07-2009 05:36 PM

look for an integra or civic with a 5 speed...tons of fun to drive, cheap to maintain, great MPG

unless youre one of those american only people

LTb1ow 04-07-2009 05:45 PM

I am one of those american only people, but she is not. LOL

Iroc-z86 04-07-2009 06:29 PM

yeah the quad - four motors are piles of junk. you have to get one of those with the 3.1 v6 and it will run forever and get 27mpg highway. My grand am finally died....not the engine but the control arm and basically totaled it. :( :( still runs and drives somehow...

Masonite 04-07-2009 06:43 PM

i'd recommend a Honda Accord, around the year 2000. right now, average one on CL is going for $4k-$5k, and has near 120k miles on them. my girlfriend has one, automatic, V6, with 160k miles on it--runs like it's brand new. REALLY reliable engines and transmissions, and she gets around 27mpg on the highway. that's my recommendation.

GP99GT 04-07-2009 07:07 PM

well all im sayin is, my integra has 215k on it and i only have to add like a 1/2 quart of oil between oil changes...runs like a top...doesnt smoke or knock. its a beautiful thing

sweetbmxrider 04-07-2009 08:38 PM

actually, the automatic hondas are known for having their transmissions eat it after 100-125k. my brother's did and a honda tech was telling us all about it. they are good, reliable cars and get great gas mileage. cheap parts and if well maintained, should last a long time.

madness410 04-07-2009 08:43 PM

+1 on the hondas..my bros 91 accord has 290,000 miles on it, runs like a champ, doesnt burn oil.

my 96 civic on the other hand sort of takes a little beating from me every now and then, 118k and still runs great. i do have to add a little oil every now and then though

sweetbmxrider 04-07-2009 08:46 PM

they are pretty notorious for the valve cover gasket leaking, especially into the spark plug tube. they have "o-ring" like gaskets that harden over time and let oil pass through. check there if you haven't already.

LTb1ow 04-07-2009 08:54 PM

Ok, thanks for all the advice guys, I passed it on to her. The search continues.

procamaroz28 04-07-2009 09:51 PM

not bad i guess, i like it as a beater if it had a clutch...

Jam 04-07-2009 09:55 PM

i love when sellers darken the contrast on their sellings pictures to hide imperfections and what not. lololol
