anyone good with fixing wireless routers?

my Internet at home is busted and I know the modem is getting Internet but the router isn't. linksys doesn't help because my tech support ran out. do I have to configure a new network? the computers are definately getting the wireless signal but no Internet. so I'm all like: ???. any help would be great.

i had the same problem the other day, but mine was because i had two antiviruses installed on the computer hooked into the modem and router, i'd say check that. if not, i would just unplug everything reboot and if that didnt work i'd make a totally new network and setup the router and **** again, and make sure oyur firewall is off when setting up the router.

Try this:

Unplug the power your MODEM for 20 seconds. While that is unplugged, do the same to your router. After 20 seconds, plug Modem back in and let it fully boot. Once that is fully booted, plug in your router. Once that is booted, check to see if you have internet. If your net is still down, grab a pencil or paperclip and press/hold the reset button located usually on the back of the router, for i believe its 7 seconds (but hold for 10 to be safe) and let it fully boot again.

You can always go into the routers firmware by going to its local IP address and resetting all settings to factory specs. Tho, that should be your last resort. If you choose to do that, and it DOESNT work, then your router is fubared.

need a TON more info... same router? new computers? just stopped working randomly? never worked in the first place?

i tried rebooting in the first place, it didnt work.

the thing is i have 4 computers in my house..two newer two older. the two newer ones get the internet signal strong and also get the internet.

the two older ones get the wireless signal, but no internet. if i connect my laptop (which doesnt get the internet) to the router via ethertnet cable it works perfectly. im not quite sure how this is possible. one computer that does have the internet has a network interface card, the other as a usb wireless thing a ma jigger.

any advice?

what are your wireless security encryption settings. Older computers can't do WPA-2.

madness410 04-13-2009 06:27 PM

ehhh how would i find that out? is it in the wireless router? i mean it was working until yesterday afternoon...all computers were working perfect i didnt mess with settings or anything its just the fact that i rebooted the modem and router a few times, and hit the reset button on the router.
