RIP Harry Kalas and Thank You

Well today is a very sad day for many of us. Harry was the only voice of the Phillies that I have ever known. It is not going to be the same without him. Thank you for the years Harry and God bless.

ashburn was a real sad day too... RIP

Frosty 04-13-2009 04:47 PM

His World Series call will forever be stuck in my head.

Go meet up with your buddy Richy Ashburn, Harry. Both of those guys together could call one hell of a ball game.

Now I know how the Cubs fans felt when they lost Harry Carrey... Its funny. I was in the Navy and stationed all over the country. When I would listen to the Mariners, marlins, Nationals, and Angles games I would ask the people I was with: who are the anouncers?? They usually said who cares of they dont know..

Frosty 04-13-2009 05:14 PM

They said the game was going to be canceled, wtf.

At least they won today.

baddest434 04-13-2009 05:46 PM

they are interviewing amaro now, he said they found out too late in the day to do it properly, and also believe that harry would have wanted them to play the game

Oh no doubt he'd want them to play. The reason why I said "wtf" was because for a short time the Phillies website said the game was canceled, I missed the game :(

I don't really get caught up in death but this sucks, I met the guy a few times...let me tell you....this guy was f'in awesome. The sports world lost a great guy and this area lost a humanitarian.

NJSPEEDER 04-13-2009 10:39 PM

Now both great Philly announcers are gone. Sucks, I grew up listening to that voice. Lot's of great baseball memories

Frosty 04-13-2009 10:44 PM

Hell I still miss Gene Hart...

7998 04-14-2009 07:29 AM

That sucks, God speed Harry.

We have tickets to the game on Friday but I dont know if I want to go.. Its will be like a funeral there. Not something that I want my daughters first ballgame to be. Thats the saddest part. My daughter wont be able to grow up with the voice of the Phillies like we all did. She wont be outfront playing baseball with the local kids imitating Harry's calls like we all did when we were young.

I remember Back in the 88 when I was 7 or 8 going to the Vet with my Grandmom when she had season tickets. She use to have a radio that we listened to at the game. She couldnt watch the game without Harry Kalas broadcasting it.

JL8Jeff 04-14-2009 07:56 AM

Yeah, what a bummer. At least he got to enjoy the Phils winning the World Series again last year. Richie and Harry with the Phils and Gene Hart doing the Flyers are strong memories for us.

AliWantsNss 04-14-2009 08:36 AM

This is a real loss for all. He was a heck of a guy.
