Tinted my windows
Today Ted & I bought some quality tint from the local Pep Boys and went to town on my two side windows. I used to have 20% on the sides, with 5% on the hatch and always thought it could look a little darker. Well today I think I made the mistake of going with 5%. It looks ridiculous sitting in my driveway, now I'm afraid to go driving anywhere with my windows up!

it looks mean but i went a % up after driving two vehicles with 5% all around. i got 2 tickets in 5 years for it but it was just too dark and sucked at night in the rain where its hard enough already. my buddy from miami says they put 5 on, then another layer over that and its pretty much black
my personal taste, i like the windshield strip with 5%. also lets you keep the sunvisors up and still see traffic lights and crap when you are right under them. |
Alex was that like a cut your own tint? 3M?
How big of a roll can you get? |
I bought Meguiars Black Magic 6ft roll. One sheet will do a window. We sized it up, trimmed to fit, trimmed some more, fitted it and then trimmed some more.
Hm, so it would not cover the rear window?
how was tinting in the rain? i tinted my ttops myself. rushed it so it didn't come out great but its like having a hardtop
Maybe 2 pieces, but I don't have the confidence to do a hatch with that amount. You could probably buy a larger roll at Home Depot/Lowes for industrial window tint.
Hmm ok, thanks.
wait till you drive at night and a big ford pulls up behind you. check your side mirrors, you can actually see still
lol niiice.. i swear ive seen this thread already!
5% FTW... except for at night when you try and make a turn with the windows up. Get ready to guess where the curb is. I never had a problem but keeps you alert LOL.
sooo dark haha
I wish I got 5% on all my windows. I might get them redone when I come into more money. I had 5% all around on the my white 95 Z and had no problems. I have never gotten pulled over for window tint ever either, knock on wood.
your side windows look darker than your hatch in the picture
I have 5%... absolutely sucks at night / in the rain / making left hand turns at night (sounds silly but it makes sense once you do it).
BUT.... it looks badass!!! http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/ryanfx/CTA2.jpg Good work. |
5% looks porno...nice work!
lools good i think mine is 15 or 20%
yes, very very sharp man. Id like to do 5% on the 87....
I have 5% on my hatch of the 98, the sides were done 5% but got a ticket for that and the taillights. So once i get it inspected in a week or so the sides will be getting done again.
I have 5% on the SS and wouldnt have it any other way. I dont think night driving is that bad at all except backing up, thats a bitch.
My Xtreme on the other hand has 5% tint on top of the already stock tint that was there. Now THATS dark. Driving around on overcast days or at night i might as well be driving a panel truck with no back windows.... but it sure is bad arse lookin lol |
Mine had 20% all around and I thought that made it hard to see...
i had 5% on my deville...it was just plain dangerous haha, looked sick though..everyone thought i was in the mafia...The 5 really makes your car look like a killer!!

ready to do the iroc next? lol I was thinking of only doing 20% on the sides because with the 5% on the back may be overkill but f-it, 5% all around looks too badass
i like the 15-20% on the sides because you can kinda see through yet still not really see who's in there
