First time at the track with GTO

So I've been wanting to run the GTO since I bought it over 2 months ago.. I finally decided to go. I usually raced at Atco(when I had my z28) but they had bracket racing Saturday so I went to Cecil County Dragway in Maryland. I made 8 passes (hot lapped), here are my times..(First stick shift at the track for me go easy!)

First pass:
R/T .417
60' 2.266
1/8 9.350 @ 78.01 MPH
1000 12.039
1/4 14.368 @ 95.83 MPH

2nd Pass:
R/T .326
60' 2.222
1/8 9.302 @ 78.57 MPH
1000 11.977
1/4 14.235 @ 100.31 MPH

Best Pass: (spun a tad/wheel hopped/then bogged)
R/T .440
60' 1.998
1/8 8.867 @ 80.32 MPH
1000 11.491
1/4 13.700 @ 102.52 MPH

I wasn't going for a good reaction time with any passes I made. Just concentrating on getting the car to launch decently. I know the car has more in it but I ran out of time to run anymore passes. I have drag bags to install and I want to get some 275 Mickey T's on my spare set of rims. I'm hoping for a 12 second pass when I get those done. The only thing I had trouble with was figuring out the best way to launch the car with minimal tire spin and no bog. I am just weary of slipping the clutch too much I guess lol..

your best pass was pretty good. proper setup will only help those times lower :D

just work on that launch a little more!

LS1 4Good 04-19-2009 11:24 PM

Yeah I need to work on the launch a lot lol I have videos of a couple of the passes that I'm waiting on my friend to upload. Once she uploads them I will post them here :D

Numbers look about right for a LS1 goat...good runs.

Thanks! I had a guy over on ls1gto tell me that his best stock/street tire time was 13.02 @ 106 with a best 60' of 1.84.(lauched at 3000-3200 rpm with a quick clutch slip) I am going to shoot for a similar time before I change anything. 8-)

Wel w/ the LS1 I guess its possible. I think the best I ever heard was a 13.2...but most see higher 13's like you.

Yea I think with a better launch and not hopping or bogging I should be able to get it!

Thats why I loved stalled auto's...just point and shoot

98tadriver 04-20-2009 08:42 PM

damn it only traps 102mph stock? you would need something like a 1.60 60' to hit 12s. are you shifting into 4th gear or leaving it in 3rd?

LS1 4Good 04-21-2009 12:47 AM

I trapped 102 but I never got a good launch.. I kept spinning/hopping/and then bogging.. I need to slip the clutch a little more.. I am also hitting 4th gear. I tried to leave it in third but I hit the limiter before I finish.

98tadriver 04-22-2009 08:12 AM

i remember when i didnt have 4th gear a few years ago, i left it in 3rd and trapped 103 bouncing the limiter lol. good luck next time at the track. that IRS is a lil harder to drive

Thanks.. I might actually go to GTO vs Corvette at ETOWN saturday. but id be sacrificing the meet.. :( decisions decisions

Jersyboyy 04-23-2009 01:25 PM

Plenty more days to hit up etown and next time they have the gto vs vette gig up their you might have the car in the 11's...i say go to the meet
Good times tho for your first time out in a manual.

xrelapse13 04-23-2009 01:43 PM

not bad man, you can see how the shifting improved over your passes which gave u the higher trap. Just keep workin on it man. 75% of 1/4 mile times are about the driver mod. Not bad at all for first time out, those irs's are a pain to launch.

NastyEllEssWon 04-23-2009 08:34 PM

that last pass 1.9 60 ft was a pretty good launch

id stick w/ Atco...Etown might depress you after you run 2-3 tenths slower lol.

umm its not even close to that bad

LS1 4Good 04-24-2009 11:01 AM

Haha thanks guys.. A bunch of my friends want to see me run the car again.. so I'm gonna do it.. I'll be at the May meet most likely though.

If your cutting 1.90's on street tires with a GTO thats not bad. Try and get a set of drag bags on it, it'll help with the wheel hop. GTO's are pita's to launch.

Haha it's funny you mention drag bags.. I've had them for a week and a half and I'm installing them today

Ummm, well it was 10-15 yrs ago when I use to race both. Maybe Etowns prep has got better for TnT.

Those times look right on for a completely stock goat. I ran a 13.54 with my predator tuned a4 04 goat. Get your 60' down to the 2.0 1.9 60 and you'll be low to mid 13s with it.

I got a 1.998 60 but I was still spinning/hopping then bogging. The 13.70 pass could have easily been a low 13 second pass if it wasn't for those issues. I am getting some ET Streets and installing my drag bags then I will see where I am at with that.

HeadlessNorseman 05-03-2009 10:55 AM

yes still very good times for your first time out. Drag radials should help out a lot! the 2.2 60 foots...thats what supras get with no low end torque...comon! Although i got a 1.9 60 foot in my mr2 with 120 ft lbs of torque. That was a clutch dump from redline with sticky tires. Traction is the name of the game i guess

My goat is going to be down for a little while thanks to my friend.
When you get the drag backs in I'll let you run my MT 275s for a few passes see what you can do about lowering your ET.
