Launching an A4
Any tips?
I have been trying to experiment locally with launching my car, but its kinda weird to sit at a light at 3k.... I hook pretty well, just curious if its better to launch as high as you can, or not as much and then punch it ..? I have a 3600 ish stall, 3.23s and 275s MTs. |
try both ways, you can raise the RPMs on the brakes until the car almost starts to move and when the last light turns yellow release the brakes and hammer the gas. Or you can sit at the light at idle on the brakes and when the last light turns yellow release the brakes and go WOT (flashing it). my LT1 car responded better to me flashing the converter and got me a 1.86 with the stock converter

Yea, thats what got me thinking about this, cause it feels faster if you punch it off the line versus dumping it.

Try both ways at the track. The time slip will tell you which is better.

I launsh mine between 2300-2600. Havent found the sweet spot im afraid launch higher becaause the trans has 116k miles on it. Ive pull bewteen a 1.69-1.71 consistently. Ive never got it to hook flashing it

Yea, track costs moneys to only get like three or four pulls in.
Friggen rain is crimping my style though. :( |

Ok, well detract the 2 hour drive in gas then... all I am saying is I don't have the money to go practice at a track.

35 + mpg's and then you can brag.
unless you can get 17 out of a truck that runs about 13 mpg's ;) |

not what i ment. I am referring to you saying that you only get 3-4 runs in
|
Ohhh, thats just what I have gathered from listening to people who do hit up the drag strip occasionally.

Yea, I would be interested in hitting up Atco with some local guys. Bust out some solid 13s I think. :)

Also Matt, back to your original question:
When I first took the truck down the track(Granted with probably 100 less hp), I learned this: Flashing the converter= higher trap speed Launching on converter= lower trap speed But all night, my et's and 60's were all withing a few hundreds. It may be more noticeable with you since your making more power, but flashing the converter seemed to work best for me. I was flashing it from just off idle.(~1300rpm) |
Hmm, well I guess we could screw around with things if I ever get it to Atco....
|
From my experiences with my 3200 vig after many many runs flashing the converter gives me the best 60ft. and et but puts more of a shock on the drivetrain. So what I do is bring it up a little bit off idle around 1000-1200 rpms then nail it, that takes a little stress off the drivetrain. I have tried loading the converter to 2200-2500 rpms but that doesn't work for me like some others. Every car likes different techniques so play around with both to see what your car reacts better to. I haven't been down to the track in a couple of months but if I go and see ya down there I would be more than happy to help ya out along with the other guys who are very supportive that post on the boards. Good luck and have some fun that's what its all about!
