Ran the car today...

Well I had to go to Englishtown today anyway so I decided to take the WS6 and see what it would run. The air was really bad today with the humidity being so high. On stock rims and HTR-Z tires i couldnt cut anything less than a 2.1 60'. It ran a best of 12.98 @112. I am very disappointed with its performance today. I need drag radials soooo bad. Here are the specs
LS6(from an 03 Z06)
Fast 90/90
headers/ ory
underdrives
and lowered (not that that should have much affect cause it does have an adjustable panhard.)
its a 6 speed with a Ram clutch.
it weighed 3550 with me in it
any suggestions???

69BirdX 05-09-2009 07:55 PM

with better air some good tires you should be able to pull lower then a 12.5/ get that 60 down to a 1.8

irocz2173 05-09-2009 09:29 PM

i thought it would be a high 11's car. I mean it put down 385 on two different dynos

NJ Torque 05-09-2009 10:52 PM

Sell the car. Haha. Or learn to drive.

And you wanted to race me for money??

NjbadSS 05-09-2009 10:56 PM

wow.. those numbers seem a bit off for the mods.. How many runs did you run and how consistent were the runs, just curious. I would guess 11's with those mods as well

NJSPEEDER 05-09-2009 11:10 PM

Good mph, sounds like you just need to practice a bit. Gt back to the track, work on the launch, maybe play with tire pressures a little. There is a half second to be found there with just a little bit of seat time.

Congrats on the ET's, that is a strong start.

NJ346 05-09-2009 11:25 PM

For 385 rwhp you should be trapping around 120 in a 6spd. Get to know the car better and then take it back to the track. When I first started out with my setup I was trapping 107 on street tires(you should trap the highest on street tires), and about 50 passes later I now consistently trap over 112.

irocz2173 05-09-2009 11:29 PM

my last two runs were dead consistent after the 60'. could the air really be hurting me that much??? or do i just suck at driving? or could there be a bigger issue maybe with the car.

I want to look at the torque arm mount. I have a strong feeling it is on its way out. Maybe i am just looking for excuses but i think i can hold my own rowin through the gears. I am pretty sure i am losing all my time at the line.

Lets think about it... if i can pull a 1.8 60' like i think i should, that would take 4 tenths off in the sixty which equates to like 8 tenths right there. coupled with the bad air its in the high 11's. I am thinking drag radial before i junk it...

irocz2173 05-09-2009 11:31 PM

NJNETSFAN- i agree thats why i was thinking down on power but remember the air was TERRIBLE!!! I am sure it would run like 117 maybe slightly more with better air.

Your trap speed should stay within 1-2 mph no matter what 60' you get. Just get to know the car and learn how to drive the 6spd like ron and the car will be in the 11's. If your that worried about it, go get the car dynoed to see what it's putting down. That'll take the guessing out of whether it's you or the car that is causing the slow times.

Doing the math on it, you would need 477ish hp to trap at 120 in a 3550lbs car, by comparison the 112 he trapped at would equate to 388hp, very close to what he is theorized to have.

Mike 05-09-2009 11:46 PM

so its a bolt on ls6 in a car thats about 400 pound heavier than the car it came out of......doubt it will hit 11s with any tire and those mods, and it defiantly wont see 120 mph with those mods

irocz2173 05-10-2009 10:13 AM

what are your mods to get to 12.2

Whiplash Performance 05-10-2009 12:24 PM

In my goat which is weighted in at 3800 lbs I ran an 11.80 @113 mph with a DA of -1800FT.
That's with a 1.63 60'. I also dynoed at 375 (which seemed really low to me for an ls2 with a cam)

In the similar kind of weather you had yesterday I ran a 12.25 with a 1.68 60'

Another note if I would spin off the line and run a 2.0-2.1 60' I would trap 112 and I would run a 12.90-13.1
So you do have an 11 second car there just get your 60 down and you'll be in the 11s even in the bad air.

i trapped 125 mph in my car, 3480lbs, on the 100shot

also trapped 118.27mph in -2000 DA n/a 1.83 60' 3400lbs give or take

irocz2173- were those dyno numbers SAE corrected or STD?

the humidity actually wasnt that bad, the DA calculator is showing at 530pm at englishtown, it was 82.4 degrees 42% humidity, 29.60 baro. barometric pressure sucked and it was 80+ degrees that = +2286' DA

String 05-10-2009 02:39 PM

Weight Reduction! Take everything out of the car. All you need is one seat. Better yet no seats, just a milk crate to sit on.

Beats what my car runs. I dont even want to run it because i don't want to know how slow it is. Haha.

irocz2173 05-10-2009 07:45 PM

I heard the DA was around 3000 that day. I am starting to feel a little better. I think the car should be able to pull 1.8 60' if i can get my hands on some radials. I will work on that for next time. For now I need to get a rim for the one i cracked at the track:shock:

with some practice, you can hit 1.8's on street tires. i have a bunch of times. just takes practice :D

ShadowHawk 05-17-2009 06:54 PM

Matt, just need some tires man...I pulled a 1.89 60' for my one run with the car and it went 12.34@114, and they were 18" wheels no less. I couldn't remember but I was reading my old thread and apparently i let out higher than i thought, left at 3500rpm for that run, and the tires were at 17psi.

And remember too I went easy on her because of the rear. Still have my slips somewhere if you want to critique them or something...to give you an idea of where it'll be. Or if you want I'll gladly take a crack at it for ya. I remember you asked me to take it & try for an 11 when you took her.

BFG's + a good launch = 11's, NO QUESTION, if not you're doing something wrong.

This was my run...and it was before the retune too, which helped it out some.

NJ Torque 07-01-2009 05:24 PM
