thinking of doing the unthinkable

after all the years and money spent building this car i'm kinda tired of all the $$$ it takes to race this car. i think i am going to put it up for sale. tuff decision but the funds just are not there to make it any faster. a new convertor could get the car in the 8.4x area then my chassis will need much more work and a chute would def be needed. it's already mid may and i still have even changed the oil or removed the anti-freeze yet. for the last few years i've said i was going to sell it but this time i think i am. i thought of just keeping it as is but i'm really losing interest and i could really use the money from the sale. maybe i need to get her to the track to change my mind but as of now i think i'm done. anybody want an 8 sec ride?

GP99GT 05-10-2009 03:45 PM

i would say youre getting old...but...

mc73nova 05-10-2009 03:59 PM

That sucks. I know where you are coming from. It isn't only expensive to buy or build one its also expensive to run and maintain it properly as well. If you want to pm the info on it I could definitely ask around the racing community up here to see if anyone is looking for something like that.

Edit- On a side note as a fellow racer, Don't do it!! Go make an 8 second pass and you'll delete this thread!

NastyEllEssWon 05-10-2009 04:04 PM

ill trade you my trans am straight up with my left nut in the ash tray

Teds89IROC 05-10-2009 07:15 PM

sucks bill, I would definitely take it to the track again before I made any decisions.

LTb1ow 05-10-2009 07:33 PM

ehhh, take the wheels off, put it up on bricks in the front yard, and voila. Money saved.

And since its a third gen, its the normal thing to do! ;)

LOL:rofl: Don't sell it man, at least hold onto it and not race it...

i think about doing that considering all i have into it but what fun is it to just have it. the money it cost to go to T&T (C16-nitrous-entrance fee-fuel to get there and back) averages out to $50+ a pass for me. i did teh math.
plus it takes hours to clean the rubber off my car after every trip which sucks.

plus the cash would help fund someother toys i have in mind

your right ted. maybe i should get there soon to get this thought out of my mind. part of me wants to let it go and part of me don't. ugh

iroc86NJ 05-10-2009 08:19 PM

hate to see someone get rid of an 8 second third gen (there aren't many). But if you seriously want to sell it pm me I might be interested in some parts (also building a +9.XX third gen).........then again you can moth ball it until you retire like half of my uncles did with their cars, lol.

you seemed to be pretty happy at the circus meet with everyone checking out your masterpiece. how about retiring her to show use? and every now and then a parking lot wheelie

GP99GT 05-10-2009 08:28 PM

make it street legal if its not already, and enjoy it

NJSPEEDER 05-10-2009 08:55 PM

Have you thought about maybe doing a powerplant change? Something to make it more drivable and less expensive? Going with a mild boosted combo you could still get into the 9's and be able to cruise it around town.

it's far from street legal and would cost way to much to make it able to pass inspection. plus a P/G and driving on the streets won't mix so a trans would be needed too.

it is cool to have other people appreciate what i have done with the car and thank you all  i need to take ted's advise and go to the track. it's been since like last october since i went. once the rush comes back to me i'll probally want to keep it.

sorry the car would never be parted out.

Blackbirdws6 05-10-2009 08:57 PM

Sorry to hear you are thinking of selling it but if you are using the money towards another toy....then I don't see an issue. Good luck with whatever you choose though!

nah tim all i think about is how to make what i have faster. i think part of my problem is that every year we did something to the car to make it faster. this year we did nothing so it will being running the usual numbers. which is great i'm very happy running high 8's but i want to take it up a level and it's so friggin expensive to do. i'm certified to 8.50 and my plan would have me quicker then that. and the cost is just CRAZY:shock:

maybe i'll just take her out 2-3 times a year and be happy until i can afford the next step.

that thought crossed my mind mike. the car would be great in a 10.0 index on motor. i made 2 N/A passes with the new gears and went 10.0x both times. i just need to get to the track!!!!!

Mike 05-10-2009 09:27 PM

thats what i would do bill, i took my truck to an event and it was the most fun i have had at the track........and that was running a 14.0 index

sweetbmxrider 05-10-2009 09:46 PM

 NO!

Slow Z 05-11-2009 02:41 PM

Good luck selling it if you come to that... I put my car on Craigslist for sale a few months ago and the highest offer I got was "$1800 CASH!" and someone offered to trade me their crappy late 1970's Nova

What is wrong with people?

lol i have no intentions of selling it on craigslist or e-bay. i know alot of people in the race scene that might be intersted. 1800 bucks is a slap in the face! i would'nt even sell my powerglide for that little amount non the less the whole car!!! some people want everything for next to nothing. not the case here.

z28rob18 05-11-2009 02:57 PM

yea if i was you id run the 10.0 index class na. thats less money you spend every trip because you wont need to fill bottles.

heavy_chevy29 05-11-2009 05:45 PM

i really hope that you dont sell that car. i feel the same way that you do. when i first got laid off i was gunna sell all my toys. this is the way i look at it, it doesnt cost me anything to keep my car and not use it. if i were to sell it i would lose a **** LOAD of money. that would piss me off more than keeping it and not using it. im currently still not working and my car has been sitting since last season. i took it out yesterday to clean it and take some pics of it. once it was all clean i realized why it is still in my garage. if you sell the car, you will regret it down the road. so just hang onto it
