EVAP

Needed?

Can I get rid of the lines up on the engine?

HeadlessNorseman 05-26-2009 06:27 PM

On previous cars ive replaced the evap canister and solenoid with an inline R/C fuel filter attached to the vac hose to the throttle body. Didnt seem to bother anything. It was basically like a PCV system on the gas tank

LTb1ow 05-26-2009 06:28 PM

I want to delete the stuff in the engine bay, and I guess vent the line out the back of the car.

JL8Jeff 05-26-2009 06:35 PM

That will probably make your car smell like fuel vapors all the time so you might not want anyone near your car smoking. Obviously it won't pass inspection either but you already knew that.

LTb1ow 05-26-2009 06:37 PM

I just wanna be clear on the EVAP system not being entirely "needed" either for engine performance or gas tank safety?

JSPERFORMANCE 05-26-2009 06:40 PM

What are you hoping to gain from removing the evap? The purge solenoid being gone will not make the engine bay look any less cluttered.

LTb1ow 05-26-2009 06:42 PM

One step closer to less clutter, and I am looking to relocate the fuel lines, and the EVAP line will not make the work worth it.

JSPERFORMANCE 05-26-2009 06:52 PM

Whatever floats your boat I guess. Your car must be a real show stopper if you are so concerned about a little solenoid and line cluttering up the engine bay. Post up some pics!!

JL8Jeff 05-26-2009 07:41 PM

The EVAP recirculates the gas tank vapors and burns them. If you're removing that then you need to do something with the vapors and reprogram the computer to not run the EVAP purge. Not sure how you "legally" passed inspection but the more obvious you make your car seem modified the better the chances of getting pulled over and checked again. I would leave the evap for safety reasons, just ask your parents.

LTb1ow 05-26-2009 09:35 PM

Why are you guys getting on my case here? This is the tech forum is it not?

I asked a simple question, leave the drama at the door. Geez.

BonzoHansen 05-26-2009 09:40 PM

It appears the negatives are being presented. Gas fumes, SES might come on, with no discernible benefit.

And entirely w/i the posed question:

Ok then, I will go ask my parents for advise..

BonzoHansen 05-26-2009 09:44 PM

Why, will they tell you what you want to hear?

LTb1ow 05-26-2009 09:45 PM

Hardly, they well either a) tell me my car is a waste of time and money or b) tell me that my car is a waste of time and money.

JSPERFORMANCE 05-26-2009 09:50 PM

I dont know if you were referring to me but I was not "getting on your case". I just figured that everything else on your car must be in show winning condition to have to be worried about a tiny solenoid ruining the look of your engine bay which made me want to see it so I asked you to post up some pics.. Sorry to make you so upset. You don't have to post pics of your car if you don't want to...

Formulalt1 05-26-2009 09:51 PM

You can mount that little evap solenoid almost anywhere and you can cut that hard plastic line and run rubber hose on the end to make it go anywhere you like but like mentioned there is really no positive reason to get rid of the system, It serves a positive function and needs something in place to perform the same task it does, I had to modify my routing on my evap system but you don't even see it in my engine bay.

LTb1ow 05-26-2009 09:51 PM

If you were serious then my bad, I just took what you said as sarcasm.

I am going to look into relocating the EVAP line and perhaps solenoid to some where else instead of deleting it.

Get fuel rail covers if you don't want to see clutter. They give a much cleaner look IMO.

LTb1ow 05-26-2009 09:55 PM

IMO fuel rail covers look stupid. I guess I am just looking to make my engine look good in hopes that it will run better. lol. yea...

JSPERFORMANCE 05-26-2009 09:58 PM

Where is John with a picture of the Pampered z's engine compartment when you need him?

To each there own but I would much rather see a smooth cover than exposed wire loom, sensors , fuel injectors and bolt heads but we have our own taste.
