Ya i was in jrotc in high school so ill be coming in as at least an e2. My friend also just got back from ait and told me everything. I think well do great, but im sorry to hear about the failed relationships
|
In basic just do as you're told. You get rank quicker going overseas (Germany for example)
|
I don't have any tips or advice either but good luck!
|
I did Air Force basic training, but yeah you should come out with all sort of friends. I did basic (dating myself here) in 1998 so im sure alot has changed since then.
however, this piece of advice goes for any branch's basic training...Don't volunteer for ANYTHING, if they ask for volunteers, DO NOT raise your hand unless you feel like peeling potatoes or standing on the road while the rest of the unit marches by... enjoy your basic training experience man. Best of luck in your military career. Now, where the hell is my TV remote |
no advice, but good luck!

The military is a great experience.
Getting married before shipping out may not be the best timing however. |
Ya but i will only be gone for basic and ait then she comes with me to my station

i have no military experience, but i wish you luck...however i am currently supporting the Army working as a civilian for the DoD |
Yea definately dont volunteer for anything...make sure the drill doesnt learn your name so soon because that will probably mean your jacked up lol. Its a mental game w/ Army basic training, dont let them beat ya..For me ait was alot worse...good luck.

Ya i know about deployment and everything. I think having been in rotc, 4 years of football in high school, and some martial arts will def help me out. My friend who just got back said in the 7th week of basic when mail came in the ds called his name and said who the hell is scarpa? he said me ds, then he said i didnt even know you were here. Thats how i plan on being like lol

Being probably one of the most recent here through basic, aug-oct' 07, let me tell u, basic training nowadays is a joke. drill sergeants are now even gone from AIT. When i was in basic, everynight id go to bed smiling, thinking its the best vcation i ever had, no bills, no real responsibilities, im told what to do eat, wear, where to go etc. its great. Other kids, who were 17-22, had a big wakeup experience though. ( i was 27) just roll with the punches, not literally cuz they cant hit u anymore, lol or curse, lmao. Some places even give "stress cards" u pull out if it gets too much, lame!. My friend went through in '05 and even he had it harder. the days of BDUs, creasing and starching, and polishing boots are all gone. Its a new army. loose fitting ACUs, tan leather boots...
As for relationships, it is rough, in my platoon, i've seen 5 fail, 3 being divorces while ive been deployed so far(6 months in). Just hang in there and you'll be fine though |
Wow, can't believe its come to that. I went through Basic and AIT in Summer 1992. Did 15 weeks straight. At that time they couldn't "hit" you, but they could "motivate" you with "hands on training". Some got manhandled more than others, but no one got slammed around. And now there's no cussing either? Stress cards?
That's ****ing unblievable. Sounds like anyone going into the military now will have it easy. |
i would much rather have it the old way. Now pretty much anyone can make it threw basic
|
Loved the 3 hours of sleep and 14 hours of processing lol I leave nov 4th to frt leonard wood then go to ft knox for ait. Im 91A1 which is M1 abrams tanks system maintainer. I got an 80 on my asvabs and got a mm score of 123. I got a list of 25 jobs everything from lingist anayalsis ( 6 months of ait) to patriot systems to bradleys and HVAC systems. My ait is 24 weeks. I can't believe so many jobs were taken but im happy with my job

i went through basic in '82. seems like a lifetime ago. the only thing you want to volunteer for is flag holder. then keep low until you graduate. same thing with AIT. be respectful, follow the rules and keep your head down. there is no sense in telling anyone anything about your past, unless you become friends and then it's only the rough outline of your life. keep details like they were national secrets. getting married before basic used to be the norm, but now it's the exception. most guys want to remain single so that they can sample the strange in other countries. just remember that everything you think about your wife is thinking the same thing. if you can keep it in your pants and she can remain faithful for months at a time without seeing you, then you may be able to succeed with the marriage. but, imo, marriage is difficult enough without adding any stressors like being away from each other for months at a time. good luck. |
