Harness Bars?
 

hey guys, anyone on here have a harness bar in thier car? if so were did you get it? or is there any custom ones? picss?

you mean like a 5 point attaching to a roll cage?

nono, a harness bar. just made for the seatbelts to mount to.

the car came w. a harness when i got it.

and thats not true, my car isnt a sub 10.50 car, and its not track car. ive thought of doing a cage a few times, but i dont want to be that guy w. just has a cage on a car that doesnt really need it

You need atleast a roll bar at 11.49...

i dont think my car is gunan break 11.5. ive never tracked my car. i would image its in high 11s because theres bolts on cars on here running low 12s

Your stock seat belts are fine...

it came with harnesses in it already...

My car came with cats on it, I don't use em. Are the stock belts non existent?

echomirage has one. i think it's pretty cool. i think 2 companies used to make them and then stopped so they're tough to find. i believe one of our former sponsors did/does them now though. too bad they're not a sponsor any more because now i can't say their nameee.

personally i dont like mine. i had it done for free as a prototype, but it could have been done better. its too close to easily mount a clip in harness, and severely limits the adjustment and placement of the harness sliders.

not many people know this, but there IS more to racing then just a straight line. harness bars are best used for autox/road racing. a harness bar is supposed to be a mounting point for a 4 or 5 pt. its not a structural support, cage, half a cage, roll bar, or anything like that. just a mounting point to strap yourself in better.

and if you are using or plan to use a 5pt, please tell me youre using it properly with an equiped race seat and not running the submarine belt over the front of the seat eventually attacting to the seat rail somewhere.

unless you have one made, the only place youll find one is in the classifieds on frrax or maybe tech.

It's not about the track, it's about overall safety. If you are in a rollover with a harness and no cage you are in more trouble than with a 3-point because the 5 point will hold you in place while the 3 point will let you move with the crash. It is one of the reasons why cars have 3 points and not 5 points OE.

Its a 4 point harness in the car. not a 5 point. And yea, i fully understand that its just a place to mount the belts. thats what i want.


and yes, the stock driver side belt is gone

same difference, other than the crotch strap, bonzo was referring to the dual shoulder straps which are the same in both 4 and 5 point harnesses.

well right now the side straps are bolted to were the stock ones were. and the shoudlers are bolted to the ground were the rear seat was

An excellent way to compress your spine on impact. Can you not put the correct belts back in?

Is this a track only car? I don't think a harness of any type will pass state inspection.

X3. A terrible setup. Go back to a stock setup immediatly, then look for a harness bar and re-convert if you have to. What you have now can paralyze you in a crash.

If you get the proper bar to have seat belt functional, then keep them. I dont see why he has to intend on going fast to use them, the harness in my Nova is more comfortable than a regular seat belt.

Do what you want, just make sure you do it the right way.

Don't get stopped wearing a harness of any kind. They are not DOT approved and are not legal for street use. They are also, as others have stated grossly unsafe in the configuation indicated by the original poster on the street or otherwise.

I asked about track only because of this.....

I believe Schroth harnesses are US-DOT FMVSS 209 approved for street use. Not one of the common brands, though.

im aware the current set up isnt safe, thats why i want a bar.
