Window motor

http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html this is probably the best write up on it ive found. took me 30 mins to swap one out

deadtrend1 07-03-2009 03:58 PM

Dude, that write up has been around since Lincoln was in office!!! :)

It is a really great write up It was one of the things I didn when I first got my LT1...

sweetbmxrider 07-03-2009 06:49 PM

yeah the more you do it, the faster you get. that is a great write up though. should really run heavier gauge wire for the motors. i did the auto down on the passenger side too.

Knipps 07-03-2009 11:33 PM

I'll get to it eventually..

haha thats what i said with my z28....ended up selling with a broken window motor :rofl::rofl:

Njgunslinger 07-12-2009 11:03 PM

yeah, well what would cause the window not to go all the way up near the mirror? I replaced the window motor but does the same thing. I can push the window up but then slips down again. Would this be the regulator, or is there another part in there that may have broke or worn?

BigRocsFirebird 07-13-2009 12:04 AM

i had to replace both about 2 months ago. after doing the first one the second took me 20 minutes.

NJ346 07-13-2009 12:14 AM

hmm...well now that the drivers side one has all but pretty much stopped working, I may have to tackle this.

S.J.SLEEPER 07-13-2009 12:16 AM

hey vinnie, you need a power window motor? i may have one. let me know

NJ346 07-13-2009 09:30 PM

what type/size drill bit did every1 use to get the motor off. I've bent like 3 all purpose bits and the motor is still in the door.

Knipps 07-13-2009 09:35 PM

The rivets are only Aluminum, are you sure you're drilling the right part?

I think I was using too big of a drill bit....I'll try in again in the morning.

JerzLT1 07-13-2009 09:40 PM

1/4 inch drill bit for the rivets lol they pop off in like 2 rotations

ehh...guess I'm just an idiot lol. I had some1 reading the directions to me and they had me drilling the whole bracket out of the car:banghead:

Knipps 07-13-2009 09:58 PM

 yeah...

NJ346 07-14-2009 09:35 AM

ok well i got the window motor out(cordless drill I used last night wasn't cutting it). I bought a doorman replacement and can get the window motor lined up, but just dont see how they expect u to use the supplied hardware to bolt the motor up...the bolts are way too big to fit through the motor....any helpful tips?

sweetbmxrider 07-14-2009 09:39 AM

did you remove the regulator from inside the door? that is how you do it. bolt the motor up outside of the door, slide it all in, and rivet that p o s back in. tweak the adjustments if necessary.

there is an adjustment towards the back of the door. it may have worked loose. its a 10 mm nut that holds a piece of track up. just check and recheck because if its too high, it will get stuck on the roof/ttop weather stripping. i'll try to find a pic. shbox.com probably has one

http://shbox.com/page/W10.jpg

best pic i can find. bottom right of pic, this is on the latch side of the door. on the outside of the door there is a 10mm nut in a slotted section on the door. check that out!

im using the shbox guide....****ing motors...no wonder why i never did this. I removed the 3 rivits they point out..have the motor in my hands....I'm trying to bolt up the new motor while it's inside the door....what did I forget to remove?

sweetbmxrider 07-14-2009 09:52 AM

no...is it supposed to?

sweetbmxrider 07-14-2009 09:58 AM

no just checkin. maybe the gear isn't meshing with the regulator? i'd personally take the whole shabang out.

If the bolts are too big, get smaller bolts?
