What kind of car?

If a W-body, I'm guessing motor/trans mounts...

Same. Check your mounts.

Yea, big change in the smoothness on my old '91 Lumina when I replaced the upper motor mounts. The factory bushings had almost 3/4" of play in them.

wouldnt it shift hard all the time if the mounts were bad, not just wehn its warmed up? check your fluid level/color

Yeah, the mounts would probably have a problem all the time but it's worth a shot. And check the fluid for sure!
