yet another random ADD moment.. i wanna buy a bicycle...
 

ok first off, yes im 100% serious, i wanna buy a new bike, as in a bicycle.

I just dont know anything about the market anymore nor do i know any websites that would have what i'm looking for.

When i was 15, i started riding flatland/freestyle and BMX. I started with a HARO i bought at a garage sale, i then went through GT comp, performers, dyno etc. I then got a job at a local Schwinn store. I ordered/built my dream bike at that time. It was a '96 Schwinn Super Stock 1 BMX bike. In candy yellow lime. As it came, it only had rear brakes, a one peice crank, and standard bars. I then ordered and installed a 3 peice GT Flite crank, a 3 peice handlebar, a 990 plate to mount front brakes, I converted the single cable rear brake with a Odessy gyro II setup, and an odessy headset. And added sidepull front brakes to match the side-pull rear. I then added oddessy liberty bell pegs on the left side, and big foot pegs on the right. The bike was perfect, not too heavy, good length and felt perfect. Well, that was 13 years ago... I do still have the bike, but its a sad site to look at. The fork, crank, and bars are all rusted, the spoke rims look like hell, seat all torn up, grips shreded, etc. I thought about rebuilding it, but i dont know the proper sizes for anything and i'm sure things have came a long way since then, so i figure id look into buying a complete brand new flatland/freestyle bike. ( i want a gyro setup and 3 peice cranks- i used to bend 1 piece ones in single jumps). 4340 chro-moly frame is a must(if thats what its called, excuse me and some terms since ive been out of this hobby for a long time.

What are good brands to look at? i dont want a bike that too heavy like some ive seen.

ive came across KHE, Stolen, Hoffman, but nothign grabbed my attention yet, and i am still surfng for a haro bike site showing their bikes, not their racing teams junk.

So basically i want links to sites i can browse through.

building a bike will probably run you a little over a grand to just under 1500 depending on the frame. complete bikes can be had for significantly less then you can just swap out what you don't like, bars, pedals, whatever, for ones that better fit your riding style. probably save a few bucks that way.

lol, funny you say that, i looked at building one Vs. buying and swapping parts.

i actually decided on a complete bike and will just be changing the bars, and then adding front brakes. i went with the Fit signature park bike, and some 4piece fit bars, diatech fiesta 996 front brakes on a 990 plate. oh and 2 additional pegs. comes to right around 800, and yes i get a free shirt :-D

thats a pretty sick setup. i like the gray/gold. how ridiculous are chainwheels/sprockets anymore :lol: 25 teeth wow. i think mine is 28 or 30

and yea 25t chainwheel, but with a 9t rear. back in the day it was way different. i know i had several aluminum outer sprocket rings i could swap out to adjust my ratios, i think my largest was 43 or 45t but then again the back was alot larger size too, with at least a 14t possibly bigger i cant recall. but i guess it equals out, and if i dont like the 25t, i can always swap to a larger one. i still have a few that may fit, no biggie.

oh and the bike weighs 26lbs before adding a front brake system, still lighter than the 30lb Hoffman bikes.

no it should ride fine, its just for clearance and weight savings really i guess. sprocket guards aren't fun at all. it will ride pretty much just like any other setup you have ridden. i would maybe think about a chain tensioner though. seeing as you are just getting back into it, you may be casing a bit and landing on the back tire hard sometimes. if the back tire pushes forward in the drop out, well thats just no fun at all :lol:

yea, ill see about that. and hell ive never run a chain guard, just a bandanna around my right ankle to keep my baggy pants of the 90s clear, haha.
i may also have to get new pedals, those and cranks i would go thrugh constantly. full metal pedals(not sure brand i had) and the 3 peice cranks stopped that)
so obviously, i do abuse bikes and im sure ill find the weak points, considering i ride off tables, cars, bleachers, concrete loading docks etc... lol. i just can't wait till i get home in sept and get to put it together and ride once again. ill be riding every day im home, thatll be some good physical fitness.
ill be sure to post pics of it completed and also of my Schwinn SuperStock, which i still may clean up a little. Come to think of it, i even have the HARO somewhere, i stripped it down for pool jumping years back. i still think its got one original white mags wheel on it. also, Then i know i got some other type of frame with frame stands in front of the sat of the top tube and by the rear tire, we pool jumped that ne too, haha. And for me now, new is always better.

i have always wanted to go pool/dock jumping. one of these days. foam pits are so fun, definitely hit one up if you have a park nearby with one. those pedals should last you a little bit. doesn't really matter if they are sealed or not if you aren't really riding trails. gotta hit up some stairs though :) most fun

Ive never had a problem with bending 1 piece cranks, and im a pretty big dude so thats weird. The only thing i used to kill on my bmx bike were tires and wheels. I dont think ive ridden a bmx bike...in 6 years? I should get one again for sure. bike meet.... haha. And i had one of those silly small chain rings too, i think a 30 tooth. Wasnt bad i just wanted the extra go power for riding in dirt/grass in my back yard

one piece cranks absolutely blow but i can wheelie em pretty good 8-)

Lol what a funny topic seeing as how I've been enjoying cruising around on my Specialized hardrock lately. Started life as a 24 speed mountain bike. I sunk a couple bills into it converting it to an 8 speed with new cranks, single sprocket, and chain tensioner a couple years ago and now I'm riding it.

Just remember there are frames specific to flatland that have different pitches on the forks to make balancing on the front tire easier.

If I remember correctly they had chromo frames down from 7lb average to 4lbs quite a few years ago. I cant imagine how light they are now. Check out the eastern stuff. All titanium if your feeling spendy. Super light and super strong and eastern was/is a good name.

Yeah ive spent 300 bucks on a set of wheels and tires before. Not a cheap piece of hardware thats for sure. But i got lucky i bought a basic $300 mongoose and the only thing i ever had to replace were brakes and wheels/tires. Got lucky i guess. I used to ride it pretty hard too

$300 for a set? my back wheel was almost 3 :lol:
