My car a starting problem

Some people told me it could be the egr block off? When i start i need to keep it reved above 1g for about a minute. Any ideas? And one other question how hard are the valve seals to do? The car smokes a decent amount when WOT.

Valve seals would only be at start up i think, WoT is more then likely piston rings

3rd gens are notorious for smoking upon start up after sitting for a little while. thatd be valve seals. but smoking at WOT could be a sign of piston ring wear, orrr oil is getting sucked into the intake at WOT

was the car running fine before the block off plate was installed?
