LT1's really do suck!

My hatred for LT1's just got even bigger(as if that's possible). I got to work on one today and what a pain in the ass it is. On top of that, when everything is finished, you can't even take it out for a spin and enjoy the ride because they are so ****ing slow! ****ing boat anchors tore up fingers and knuckles. God damn, never buy an Lt1 car, they're slow, constantly have oil leaks, and are very un-entertaining!

/ rant

actually it was a favor, so that's what made it even worse. Wasted 4 hrs on a radiator because the bottom of the radiator support got ****ed up in an accident.

BigRocsFirebird 08-16-2009 06:55 PM

hey at this point i'd take a Lt1. i have a 3.4L haha

no, but the fact that when I finally got it done and then took it for a spin after and got no enjoyment from the ride...that is the LT1's fault.

+1

I do have to admit my car is not the most fun to work on however I do ask for it. My latest valve cover install left my arms scraped and cut to hell. Just about everything I do on the car makes me bleed but...I do enjoy it when it's done.

I would think someone of your stature should be able to get just about anywhere on a car. Suck it up :)

There's really no difference working on an LT1 car vs an LS1 car. It's the 4th gen engine compartment that is FTL! Stop whining until you have to change out the passenger side AIR check valve on a 93 LT1! The LS1 was a bigger PITA when it comes to the rear passenger side spark plug and wire when doing headers and I've done them on both engines. The best thing about the LS1 is that it makes a good 30-50 hp more than an LT1 with the same mods and still idles smooth as can be and passes inspection easily! Radiator! Give me a break! 8-)

Oh and let me tell you that the LS1 Fbody is so easy to work on!! Yes the LT1 is a Pain but so is any 4th gen Fbody. And another thing, Its a F-body!! If you were a true Fbody fan then it shouldnt matter what engine is in the car to be enjoyable to drive! I have a blast driving my buddies 81 Turbo 301 T/A ! That this is a 16 second car but I still enjoy driving it around.

I don't doubt the radiator job is any easier on my car, it was just the disappointment after the job was done that the power just wasn't there that I'm used to. I guess that's the difference between a 14 second car and a 12 second car.

BigRocsFirebird 08-17-2009 12:20 AM

hey switch drivetains with me.. i have no problem lol

sweetbmxrider 08-17-2009 07:23 AM

go touch the back of your intake

Triple-A 08-17-2009 08:15 AM

I have worked on both and absolutely love working on LT1.
Maybe cuz on my own LT1 there is not a single bolts that I haven't torched.
I had a lot more trouble working on LS than LT... need more tools.

What? You could practically disassemble an entire ls1 car with a 8, 10, and 15mm wrench.

I'd have to agree with that, I have no problems working on LTs, but LSs I'm still on a learning curve. But them, I've probably pulled apart 25 LT1 over the years and they are far more like a traditional SBC and I've only gotten into about 3-4 LS1s?

Far as LTs being so much slower then an LS I really don't see that much difference when stock? Well , maybe if you happned to drive one with the 2:73s gears. Drive one with the 3:42 and they are only a tick slower then an LS and both engine run/feel the same, you don't really feel the claimed "extra torque" of the LT engine, nor the "top end" of the LS. At least not from my butt-o-meter.

camaroracer1992 08-17-2009 09:45 AM

i know plenty of people with lt1's and they dont bitch. the ls series is def a bad ass motor but the LT's are just as good
