Jeter!
Derek Jeter just passed Lou Gehrig as the all-time Yankee hit leader. He's having a great season. Awesome.
They showed his stats vs. Pete Rose at the same age - Jeter has better stats across the board. I'd love for him to break rose's record. edit: backed up the tv to check the #s: Code:

Like Scott said, probably the coolest guys in the game, and has been one of the best players year after year since he stepped onto the field. He is a class act on and off the field. Scumbag? Not by a long shot. |

i love all philly teams, although I don't like nor watch football, and baseball helps me fall asleep, but good for Jeter, records arent ment to stand forever, they are there as the benchmark for you to surpass if you have the skill, and perserverence ( I know I spelledthat wrong) to succeed. |
I dont believe any of these players should be even considered in the same league as Lou Gherig, Babe Ruth Etc!!! Because those old time players accomplished those feats with less games, farther fence lines, AND NO KIND OF PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS!!! They didnt have the luxuries they have today and the whining attitudes of todays players. The old school played for fun and the love of the game. All these broken records are bogus and shouldnt stand.

Whoa...Jeter never has been accused or found using drugs to enhance his performance.
Babe Ruth did more drugs, drank more, and did more activities outside of the field then any player before or after him, should his record be removed? Is he still not revered as one of the greatest players ever? This is the same type of argument that was brought up when Mantle and Maris were gunning for Babe's home run record in a season. Ruth didnt have to travel across the US to play a night game in the Bronx on Tuesday and then a Afternoon game in LA on Weds. |

further fence lines???? you do realize that the polo grounds was 279 and 258 down the lines. and yankee stadium was 315 on both sides down the line.....small considering that the phillies new stadium is always call short and the shortest it gets is 330. with almost 400 on the left field side. babe ruth had the luxary of hitting in relatively short parks most of his career. btw babe ruth had a history of drug and alcohol use.....cocaine can be considered a performance enhancer as well  |

most ball parks were never made equal and most had further fencelines and some didnt have any at all until the rules on the size of all ball parks were established. Drinking and drugs of those days does not constitute performance enhancers. They had a good time playing and all the partying that came with it. The history channel has quite a few good features on baseball, and player biographies and so on. Not taking away anything from jeter, but there really is no room for comparison with players in those times to the ones of todays era. No matter what you can come up with or try to argue. Lou gherig played 1000 games less then jeter. Yogi also did this feat with a thousand less games then Jeter. I feel those old records should stay and new records shold be established from the point where baseball is today. Not sure if it was the late 60's or 70's. It should be the same for all sports
