What do you guys think?

Well I was leaving work today on Mcguire heading to the gas station on Dix...a green debaged 2v w/ race #'s chalked on it passed me (i was in my daily driver). I though it was a 6 but it sounded way to good to be...Sure enough he pulls up right ahead of me and fills up...So I walk up to him and ask him what he ran...he tells me a 11.80 @ atco...now as he said that red flags are popping up everywhere. For one I didnt hear a blower and I know it takes alot just to get these cars in the 12's. So needless to say he says he has a bolt on car w/ 373's running a 125 shot....Ok it almost added up until he told me he got to the track and somebody told him he had his dr's on backwards....Now the guy was a officer probably in his late 30's, I have no need not to believe him but Im not so sure that a sprayed/bolt on 2V can hit high 11's especially from a guy that doesnt even know the right way to mount his dr's.... and on dr's no less. These cars usually need Et's and skinny to get them into the 12's w/ bolt ons an weight reduction..what ya guys think?

Anti_Rice_Guy 09-21-2009 06:56 PM

You're saying that a 2v can get to say, 12.8 with bolt ons and weight reduction.

The rule of thumb is 100 hp = 1 second, right?

So that would be 12.8 - 1 = 11.8. Then you factor in the 3.73s and I don't see why it's not believable.

Never said it wasnt believable, but if you know anything about 2V mustangs these cars usually need ET streets and skinny just to hit 12's w/ bolt ons...and thats usually w/ 430's.

Anti_Rice_Guy 09-21-2009 07:15 PM

Then what are you asking? What you're saying seems to be supporting that he can, like I said.

A stock 2v can be low 14, so 12.8 with bolt ons/DRs/gears, 11.8 with 125 shot. They''re a little lighter than a 4th gen, and you're saying with weight reduction....

Yea i understand your thinking but its highly unlikely...some blown 2v's barely get outta the 13's...what im trying to say is its highly unlikely to see a bolt on 2v in street trim anywhere near the 12's. Let along launching good enough on dr's to hit an 11. Like I said its not unbelievable, I just not so sure about his story.

S.J.SLEEPER 09-21-2009 07:36 PM

I'm with ya. mustangs ftl anyway. my buddy tim had a 02 or 03 and put a bullet motor in it, all the bolt ons, slicks, gutted and it went 12.40 with a 125 shot. so doubt 11's. blowin smoke up ya azz!!!!!

91chevywt 09-21-2009 07:40 PM

I think it makes sense. He says 11.80, which is probably his best time in that car. Figure all the bolt ons plus spray and 3.73s with DRs its probably a solid low 12 second car, he was just telling you the best time he's run.

A simple youtube search revealed this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaSKx5VNTs0

Boltons, suspension, stock exhaust manifolds/catback
ran 11.7 @ 116 on 150 shot/DRs, 12.82 on motor.

That was a 150 shot w/ skinnys up front. Headers dont add much on a 2v GT and a catback is basically nothing more then a sound improvement so those being left stock is no biggie. The midpipe is where you pick up the power. It also says nothing about what type of gears or weight reduction he has(other then obvious being skinnys)....For all you know he might have nothing more then front seats running 430/456's gears...The car I saw was full street trim w/ nothing more then a set of dr's. W/ his mods listed he isnt getting out of the higher 13's let alone higher 12's, there something else definately going on w/ that car lol.

Anti_Rice_Guy 09-22-2009 08:42 AM

You sure aren't making playing devil's advocate easy here!

Just because it looked to be in street trim doesn't mean it didn't have weight reduction. Some members here pride themselves on weight reduction that you'd never see, unless he was stopped and you knew where to look. And I wouldn't think skinnies would be worth that much...maybe a tenth-ish? 3.70 gears instead of 4.30s would help with the launch instead of sitting there spinning. 2v GTs are slackers, but they're not as bad as you're saying. I'm pretty sure if you did boltons/gears/DRs/125 shot/weight redux on a friggin Civic you could get high 13s. You're making this car slower and slower every time you post

Not trying to. You just used a bad example . Bolt ons dont do much on a 2V. As far as basic mods go Gears, Midpipe and maybe a tb/plenum is about is. I researched these cars a ton because I was thinking of getting a new edge for a few years before the LS1...it just took way to much to get them in the 12's. Any even when they did they only trapped around 103-105.

WildBillyT 09-22-2009 09:06 AM

Question- If his DR's hold the car, why does it matter that he's not running a full slick?

Mod. Mustangs are torquey down low, even worse w/ gears(even 373's)...Slicks benifit them much more...Seeing that mod motors like to rev most guys run 430's-456's which make it hell to get outta the whole w/ dr's.

91chevywt 09-22-2009 10:42 AM

I think the only way to settle this is to run him at the track
