TOYOTA recalling KILLER FLOOR MATS!

Toyota is recalling 3.8 million cars to replace their front drivers floor mat. It seems that it can move about and get stuck under the gas pedal and cause it to seem stuck open. Just several weeks ago there was a story on the news about a LEXUS owner that called 911 to report his car was out of control and he could not stop it. His last message was that he was coming to an intersection and his speed was over 125 mph. Soon after that his car was found in a ditch with all aboard dead.

Or you know, just put the car in neutral and turn off engine...

You have a link to anything about that? Because that sounds like massive interweb BS.

Good job finding that.

Driver fail. Sad, but fail none the less.

Wow, recalling 3.8 MILLION vehicles because they couldn't put a $.50 hook in the floormat to keep them from moving when they built these cars? Floormats have been sliding under pedals for decades - I don't think I've ever owned a GM car that couldn't have the same thing happen. Can't you just pull it back out of the way?

people are just stupid

FlyingDutchman 09-29-2009 09:37 PM

BigRocsFirebird 09-29-2009 09:46 PM

i still don't get how you can't think to shut the car off.. E-break or something just wow i guess they are not good under pressure. sad though

i had my throttle jammed open once. piece of the rubber part around the air filter tore off and got stuck in the throttle body. i shifted into neutral and turned of the engine. no big deal.

Tru2Chevy 09-29-2009 10:29 PM

my buddy v6 camaro 4 gen had a cold air intake...the gasket inside got sucked into throttle body and stuck open hit brakes did a very nice burnout and then turned key off....a bit wierd but nothing that using your head couldnt handle...

bubba428 09-30-2009 12:38 AM

wow... two things

1: only toyota could F-up a floor mat
2: Toyota owners, on a general basis, must be ****tards.

I've had the floor mat jam up the brake pedal, pull with heel, problem solved.

i cant see how it can get stuck wide open by the mat unless he had it to the floor to begin with.

ib4200 09-30-2009 02:22 PM

were they not hitting the bake pedal either? i dont think any car can accelerate to 125 with the brakes on

GP99GT 09-30-2009 04:29 PM

happened once in my chevy blazer...factory floor mats...**** happens. i just reached my foot behind the pedal and popped it back

BigRocsFirebird 09-30-2009 05:12 PM

i didn't think toyota's could go above 75mph let alone 125

There's no need to show off your "intelligence".

LTb1ow 09-30-2009 05:35 PM
