free video editing program
 

anyone got any? i had windows jazz on my laptop but the hard drive bit it so i got nothing. anyone know where to get one? thanks!

I actually used Camtasia to put clips together for my brother's HW once. It's free if you know where to look

i found windows movie maker on my computer actually. i gotta look for something good though. any suggestions?

you can get sony's basic vegas software for like $60. i know it's far from free but you can actually do quite a bit in it. one of my friends had it and it was pretty decent even compared to some of the higher end programs i've used. luckily my family is big in video/photography so i get to use everything for free.

a bunch of my friends downloaded Vegas off of limewire after I recommended the program to them, but none thought to scan it for viruses before installing. one of the files was loaded hahah.

And hence. Torrentz > limewire.

How serious are you? And what type of computer are you working on?

Adobe CS4 has the new Premier Pro bundled in. It's one of, if not the best, video editing programs out right now.

not very, a dell inspiron 600m. windows xp. just something a little better than the norm to throw together something decent to watch.

Premier is more "professional" than vegas, but also more expensive. it's layed out more like Final Cut which is probably the best video editing program out.

a cheaper version of vegas would probably suite you well, unless there's some free stuff out i'm not aware of. it's very easy to use and learn and has potential. i've made a few pretty good videos with it.

cool cool thanks guys for the help. i think i am gunna look into a new camera too. any suggestions? i'm not really committed to anything aside from the fact that i use firewire to transfer to my computer, if that matters. something nice though that captures very clear would be great :D

try the vegas trial before you drop the monies, determine whether you like it or not

as far as camera choice, just be aware that HD does not always equal good video. the sensor is what's important. most of the time 3CCD cameras will perform better in lower light and capture more vivid colors than cameras with small single CMOS sensors. those small CMOS sensors in some cameras are getting better, but the cheaper cameras are still lacking.

best thing to do is just find a few camcorders in your price range and read billions of reviews online before you buy.

All the programs discussed have 30 day free trails, so play around with them.

Also if you decide to get serious with the whole video thing....look into getting a new computer. I just looked up the specs on your comp (i'm not sure what upgrades you have), but most of the software we've talked about really should be run on computers with 2+GB of RAM and at least 200 GB hard drive. The graphics/video programs on my computer alone (not including files) take up about 40GB of the hard drive. Just something to think about.

ok thanks. its whatever ram came from dell and 140 gig internal hard drive and 300ish external.

I have used Vegas a little bit, and while it's certainly not as robust as FCP, it is pretty nice. Also - the new movie "Paranormal Activity" was completely edited on the director / writer / producer / editor's home computer with Vegas.
