Install your antivirus software or download one of the free ones from a reputable download site. Get a spyware program as well.

jims69camaro 11-10-2009 01:57 PM

do yourself a favor and download google chrome. antivirus/spyware/adware programs are a plus.

Squirrel 11-10-2009 02:21 PM

i havent even tried chrome on my desktop yet, is it that much better than FF?

Knipps 11-10-2009 02:31 PM

It's faster but the ad-block support isn't really there yet

Blackbirdws6 11-10-2009 02:44 PM

Chrome is considerably faster but has a couple annoying quirks however I still use it as my default browser.

I love google crome. I have it on both Gateway and Dv6000 i love it.

r0nin89 11-10-2009 02:51 PM

If you have Vista either go Windows 7 (I just did and love it)

or downgrade to xp if the specs arent good enough.

Squirrel 11-10-2009 03:00 PM

Thank god it has xp, otherwise i'd either sell it or go thru the effort of d/l'ing it or 7

bobb1589 11-10-2009 09:59 PM

download microsoft security essentials (free a/v,spyware, etc.)

install firefox

Squirrel 11-10-2009 10:35 PM

so what do i do for adobe updates for chrome?

ryanfx 11-11-2009 11:51 AM

Don't use chrome... no support for addons such as ad-block plus which are essential for web viewing; not only for your pleasure, but for blocking malicious websites and add-inserts.

Make sure you essentially remove all shortcuts to the evil abomination IE and only use it if absolutely necessary.

Ensure your host based firewall is up and running, download an anti-virus program such as AVG/Avast and don't be a n00b. You didn't win a car, you didn't collect a large amount of Nigerian funds, you did not pass go and collect 200 dollars.

Squirrel 11-11-2009 12:26 PM

hows opera these days?

Frosty 11-11-2009 04:53 PM

Firefox>>Chrome IMO.

Like everyone said, spyware and antivirus.

Mark42 11-12-2009 10:19 AM

What do you have for virus protection? Got a router and firewall? That alone will save major headaches. Download and install Spybot search and destroy. Works well as a backup to any virus protection you may have.

i've had zero issues with updating other software unrelated to the browser (if that wasn't your question, uh, i dunno :D ). just go to the manufacturer's site and getchur update.

uh, what is ad-block plus? i don't have ANY ad blocking software installed and i see ZERO ads. no annoying pop-ups. no crashes. if an app decides to crap the bed on you, all you lose is that tab, not the whole session of your browser (unlike BOTH ff and microcrap ie).

really, if you haven't downloaded it and used it every day for a year (like me (and if it's not been a year yet, then i apologize to the time-sensitive among you)) then how do you know what it will or won't support. come on. some of you may have downloaded it when it first premiered and natch it didn't have the support it has today.

like i said, do yourself a favor and download chrome. you don't really need the adware/pop up/antivirus software if you do (but i have them, just in case i have to go back to FF  ).
