EZ Pass question, Help!
can i take my EZ pass off my car to use it in a different car of the same class without adding it to the account? Like, remove it from the windshield to use in a friends car for one trip?
|
I've done it before without issue. No guarantees though
|

i've done it with no issues. technically its for the specific car but i have never, ever had a problem and have done it PLENTY of times.

Yeah I've been through 4 cars with the same EZ pass. I believe its technically under my dads 84 Eldorado he sold 6 years ago. I used it in my camaro, my toyota, my k10, and now my regal.
I even forgot it wasnt up in my regal once, got a ticket, and they didnt even question that the car in the picture wasnt an eldorado. Just paid the buck. |

Now are we talking vehicle classifcation toll wise, like axle number and GVWR? Or are we talking DMV classification like commercial, car, truck, SUV, etc.
|
passenger vs commercial

mine is registered for my truck, the Z and my DD

white is passenger. Blue is commercial supposedly. but its mainly by weight.

Each E-ZPass tag is specifically programmed for a particular class of vehicle, and while any valid, working tag will be read and accepted in any E-ZPass toll lane, the wrong toll amount will be charged if the tag's programmed vehicle class does not match the vehicle. This will result in a violation and possible large fine assessed to the tag holder, especially if a lower-class (e.g., passenger car) tag is being used in a higher-class vehicle such as a bus or truck. In an attempt to avoid this, E-ZPass tags for commercial vehicles are blue in color, contrasting with the white tags assigned to standard passenger vehicles. The blue E-ZPass is also used in government employee vehicles. In New York, an orange E-ZPass tag is issued to emergency vehicles as well as MTA, PANYNJ, and Thruway Authority employees.

answers my orange question.... they go over the bridge quite often from here
|
Ive even used mine while towing the car trailer and paid regular two axle price :p.
|
even if it was a violation it would be the 1.00 or whatever the amount is. i went through one time without the ezpass by accident and a ticket came in the mail for some absurd amount of money but at the bottom it states that if someone has an account with EZpass you can just add the 1.00 to that account rather than pay up the butt for the ticket:wink:
