lt1 alternator relocation with stock bracket
felt like doing something today so i gave it a shot, still gotta add the idler pulley up top. should look like this:
http://web.mac.com/lewkck/mymachineh...s/DSC03286.jpg but not as nice  just much much cheaper! http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258597795 http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258597929 http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258597973 http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258597997 http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258598005 http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258598060 http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258598087 http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...g?t=1258598100 will update when i make moaar progress :) *for reference* basically stock routing, little custom but imagine as a/c delete http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/me...ted_small1.jpg |
pretty sweet man... impressive that you made that... i was told you only need one bolt to hold the alt on though so your like over kill right there...
|
just wondering, what is the benefit to this? Allowig to run taller valve covers??
|
that yes and they don't have to be lt1-specific, dented. plus just trying to get that "naked" engine bay look.

Are you keeping the power steering? I can check, but someone ( maybe Madman racing ) makes a setup where the PS is relocated to the DS and the alt goes where the AC would be. This really cleans up the bay because you loose the entire mounting bracket.
Just my opnion here, but keeping the stock bracket but with a pulley instead of the alt up top really doesn't do a whole lot to clean things up. I polished my bracket and alt, 97TransAM had his alt and bracket powder coated black to match the car/engine bay and it makes it more appealing. |
decent looking

madman makes the alternator only bracket. speed inc makes all of the crazy ones!
this is pretty much what mine will look like, stock bracket: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...2091444-01.jpg speed inc style: http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...rod/vcs068.jpg this is what i would like to see under my hood one day  http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...0722092342.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...Picture043.jpg good thread of  lt1 engine bays http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt...t1-engine.html |
i put an idler pulley on it, gunna see if i can find couple different washers and maybe use a different bolt. its not bad but i think i can do better. didn't bring it home so no pic!

well i don't think i could run both power steering and alternator but it might work. the only big issue is that reverses pump direction (stock spins clockwise) so that involves new pump, lines, and reservoir. definitely a nice link for possible future application, just trying this out on the cheap-o for now. thanks!
|
Doesn't mezierie (sp?) make an electric pump for your car? :)
|
OP has requested a cleanup.
Adam, AG is worth a call. |
i saved the link :)
|
Is the power steering on the RH side too in an LT1?
|
yeah where those two bolts are is where the pump mounts. its a smooth pulley. the belt is contained the the passenger side and the electric air pump is on the driver side.
i have the idler pulley mounted, just haven't had my camera with me or the setup home. |
