Questions on selling a car

Hey guys, my Mom wants to look into selling her car.

Its a 1989 Jaguar XJS, just curious as to where you guys would start looking at in terms of advertising it.

Yeah that probably better than craigslist, the tire kickers can look and not bother you.

put it up on craigslist. everything sells on craigslist. dont put your moms phone number though, just let them reply to the disguised email in the ad.

If its a nicer jaguar I'd wait to put it on craigslist and put it one autotrader first, seems like everything gets sold for a good deal less on craigslist

How's the condition? Anything special? If so, maybe try some Jag forums?

Thats what she was thinking, it has less than 40k miles on it, and she is under the impression that someone will pay more than blue book for it...

Blue book says between 5700 and 4700 ish. I told her no one is gonna be paying for a new toy any time soon but she just wants to start advertising it and see what comes up.

Because n00bs are always well received when they sign up just to sell stuff. :)

To sell a car, you need to 'sell the car'. It doesn't matter where you put the ad as long as it's a good one. Take good pics, tell people how great the ride is, talk about the performance, etc. autotrader is a good place, craigslist, etc. Ebay isn't that good anymore as the fees to post a car now are not worth it. The down side of craigslist is that the search function is prehistoric. You can only search that region you are listed in, or use a special search like craigshelper.com. The best way around it is to type up the ad in word, save it, then change it around a bit and save another version and do that like five or six times. That way you can post the ad up in several regions to expand your audience (craigslist will not allow you to post up the exact same ad more than once).

Cars.com and Vehix.com are another pair of free online classifieds. I got good deals on both of my Jeeps searching cars.com
