rear lt1 brake question

i just got done putting my rear together... but had a slight set back.... those huge weights on the rear calipers for vibration control hit the LCA relocate brackets so i had to take them off... i just wanted to know how important these were... or if i could leave them off... keep in mind this car isnt daily driven.. but does get highway driven from time to time... if i need to ill grind a flat spot in it and slip it back on...

So helpful. :|

Brandon, can you snap a pic of what they are catching on?

I know you have a aftermarket rear and all...

BonzoHansen 12-22-2009 09:25 PM

They don't really serve any braking use, they are for NVH as far as I've ever read. So chatter/noise is probably how any issue will manifest if it matters. With a modded car all NVH bets are out the window anyway. Drive it and find out. So yeah, helpful enough. :p

^^^ my thoughts exactly john hahah.... i just know its going to be a bitch cutting through those weights so i wanted to see if it was necessary... what kind of chatter are we talking... through the rear or just like an out of balance wheel

BonzoHansen 12-22-2009 10:02 PM

I'm not entirely sure. Pad/brake noise I'd suppose. I'd not expect any kind of vibrations

just do the 5th gen mod. throw some stick on wheel weights all over the caliper.

Nah piece of cake to cut them. A cutoff wheel a die grinder and a steady hand. Took about five minutes.
