huge cam issue
ok so i bought my 98 with the cam already installed but the guy couldn't find the cam card. now i need to get the cam indexed so i get get someone to write a tune for it and i dont have the info they need. i called the manufacturer and even they said they didnt know where to find a cam card for it (which is kinda odd) so if anyone has a tsp 231/237 or if you know anyone that has one can you please tell me where to find a copy of this thing that would be awesome so i dont have to buy a whole new cam setup and get charged for labor on pulling my engine out entirely and taken apart

We could write a tune for your cam without needing the cam specs on it just by doing some track pulls and street tuning on it.
For $200.00. |
Rich did you try calling up TSP? It looks like it was a cam they don't make anymore. Here's what I found with a little searching
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...am-please.html http://dodds.cc/chad/garage/z28/ls1_.../camshafts.htm about 2/3 down it says .598/.595 lift, 112lsa |
yea i called them and they told me i was beat. i unfortunately need ALL the information on the cam card so the can index it before they do the tune. the worst part is that i KNOW people have this cam in their car and it used to be a pretty popular cam like a year or 2 ago so i dont see why there isnt somewhere on the internet that has all the cam cards on there so you can just look it up.

This is what I found...
231/237 duration @ .050, 0.598/0.595 Lift, 0.307/0.307 Gross lift 112 LSA installed on a 110 CL @ 0.05 ~10* overlap IVO: 5.5 BTDC IVC: 45.5 ABDC EVO: 52.5 BBDC EVC: 4.5 ATDC I cant find a 231 or 237 lobe with the same lift as what I found to figure out its duration at .006 and 0.200. I pretty sure tsp upgraded to the 233/239 from this cam a while ago, when they were using XE-R lobes for most of their cams. An educated guess based on XE-R lobes would be 281/285 duration @ 0.006, 153/157 duration @ 0.200. This would give you: @ 0.006~59* OL IVO: 30.5 BTDC IVC: 70.5 ABDC EVO: 76.5 BBDC EVC: 28.5 ATDC @0.200~-69* OL IVO: 33.5 ATDC IVC: 6.5 ABDC EVO: 12.5 BBDC EVC: 35.5 BTDC |
I know people running that cam, I'll check if they have the card?
But, are you trying to do a mail order tune or something? Knowing the basic lift, dur and LSA should be enough for someone to tune the car. Those specs will will mostly likely just give them the ballpark for the tune. To get it right they are still going to need to look at data logs etc to tweak it. |
if you could find out if they have the card that would be great. im getting it tuned at a speed shop and the guy said that he wants to do it right or he wont do it at all so he wants ALL the info on the cam card unfortunately.

Sounds to me like he is trying to use a already made tune for your cam. Running logs with HP tuners (or similar software) and a wideband o2 sensor would tell you everything you need to know to adjust the car properly. |

i would definitely get away from that shop. Go to someone who tunes LSx cars on a regular basis(doesn't sound like your speed shop does). Either check out a sponsor(whiplash) or check out Race Proven Motorsports in Delaware...a few members have tunes done by them(including me) and love it. Whiplash would be cheaper so I would check them out first.

I double that. I had the 231/237 cam and you should definately go with a speed shop that specializes with LSx cars. You don't need a cam card to do a tune, you just need some pulls and data logging. I also recommend RPM or one of our many great sponsors on here. Don't want to take a chance with a shop that generically tunes any car rather than taking to a LSx specialty shop. |
Just curious...... do you mind telling us what speed shop?
|
its bruces speed shop on rt 46
|
never heard of it,
but if I were you I would stick to a well known, reputable shop that is lsx friendly, (WHIPLASH, ETC...) |
