Stupid post of the day...
I could probably scan thirdgen.org and have a post for every day but here goes one....
Dude has a '91 or 92 V6 thirdgen Camaro...planning....a Northstar motor swap...WHY? To each their own but with LT1 and LS1 swaps getting easier and easier by the day why would someone waste their time with an inferior motor? It's not like it'd be a direct bolt-in like a SBC. Am I on crack or is that swap a complete waste of $$? |
Trying to be different. Those other swaps are beat to death.
|
thirdgen.org has a lot of crackheads like that. They have a v6 car and dream of one day putting in a v8. Until they realize they can buy a v8 car for not that much money, or take it all apart and realize they don't have the knowledge or money to put it back together. On a daily basis you'll see "i have a 2.8 car, what will it take to make it as fast as a v8???"
I'd be willing to bet a northstar swap isn't going to happen. |
i think it is an absolute waste. Even if they are beat to death still a terrbile waste of time effort and money to but a northstar v8 in
|
why not. its not hurting your wallet what other people plan to do. a northstar would be kinda cool. the xlr's had northstars in them....i can see it being kinda cool
|
Not it's not hurting my wallet hence me saying to each their own...it's just stupid lol.
By the time he swaps it in and spend all of that $$ he could have put a better, more reliable motor in. I don't know, it just doesn't make much sense. |

If they want to go for it, more power to them. Waste of money, yes. Taking the long way to the finish line, yes. |
It is either ‘I wanna be different’ or ‘I got a free engine’, lol. Problem with that engine is the limited aftermarket support.
It is a better engine than a 3rd gen V6 or 305. Might make a nice cruiser. :p To each his own. |
Better than an LS1.

Someone jumped into defend him saying there's someone on TGO that has a 400hp 305CFI that gets 40mpg...not that has anything to do with the discussion but I can't wait to see the link on that info. TGO amuses me sometimes. |
Here's a 4th gen with Northstar.
http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15799 Here's my opinion: - It looks pretty cool. - If it was about what was fastest or most reliable, we would all be driving either a fox mustang (or something else lighter than a Camaro) or a Honda Civic. I say go for it. In fact, I think those big blocky valve covers have a bit of vintage hemi hue. If I were building a "traditional" looking rod, i would look into it. I wonder if you could fab a 6-71 blower intake for one of those. |
cuz its cool, and def different. i loved my northstar when i had my 95 STS. yes the aftermarket is limited but there are always tricks.
plus iirc, the northstar bolts up the the v6 bellhousing. |

If you get a link to this PM it to me. 400hp 305CFI that gets 40mpg - the mileage can't happen with that system, it's just not efficient enough - manifold, ecm, etc. 400hp it maybe can do. Mine had no issues running with LT1 4th gens when they were new, for those particular owners goofing on 3rd gens, as well as all stock 3rd gens. And no opti :p:p:p |
Battle of the horrible ignition designs?
ceasefire vs opti? :) |

CFI is not an ignition. It's a poorly executed fuel system. :p |

Boo. I thought there was a contender for the title.

i saw a 4th gen with a northstar. that was fun. i wouldn't wanna do it but it would be neat to see. i'm just curious what they do with the waterpump.

There's a guy on another forum doing a northstar into a fiero, it looks pretty cool
|
Might turn out to be a good Auto X car is nothing else.
|
I know a gu who has a supercharged northstar in his 69 camaro. The northstar motors are bad ass

I always wanted to put a 3.8 Supercharged V6 from a Grand Prix GTP in my third gen.... I thought it would be cool & different. Plus those motors can make nice power without alot of $. I ended up dropping a LT1 in it in the end. Cheaper and more HP out of the box.
