New Turbo kit for all the 3.8 People here

http://www.cartuning.ca/products/pro...ird&engine=l36

They claim 400rwhp with just the turbo kit!! Thats pretty sick!!

Blacdout96 02-04-2010 09:32 AM

sounds good, but ill believe it when i see it. probably have to wait 15 seconds for the the turbo to spool up to get that number without a cam, heads cleaned up, and lower compression pistons. I would love to get that, but 5K is a little outta my range right now.

Looks sweet. I dont see anything wrong with them numbers its a 3.8

Scrat's_Camaro 02-04-2010 11:40 AM

Running stock compression, people run 5-9 psi, I can't see it make 400, without some assistance. I say more like 310 with no other work. Our blocks are strong, but we have some anemic problems with our cars like the heads, and oiling of components, otherwise, yeah the blocks are bullet proof. If you wanna get crazy, crank the boost up a little I can see, but from a day to day basis, your not goign to get those numbers on avreage.

You won't see those numbers like that. With FI it's not just the turbo or SC kit, you need supportings mods, even at low boost. Now it's not impossible to meet those numbers, but it will take a bit more than 5k, plus time to tune and work out the issues that arise with FI. Now the 3.8 does handle boost well bit it still will need forged bottom end to reach reliable numbers. My friends had blowby at 8psi on 3.8L stock bottom end before he built the forged motor in there now and reaching 500+hp

69BirdX 02-04-2010 07:45 PM

It says with full bolt ons. 5-9 is kinda low Boost and seems like the power seams a bit high

Blacdout96 02-04-2010 09:14 PM

I don't know, I couldn't justify paying 5K for a kit, realistically, your paying for the labor of the machined, ad fabbed parts.

Slow-V6 02-05-2010 06:51 PM

I made 313rwhp with my stock 3.8 on a 125 shot of nitrous. I sprayed on the stock motor for over 2 years and put 68 10lb bottles of Nitrous through it before I broke a piston. I only broke the piston so it would give me a reason to drop my fully built motor in the car! With a good tune I think the 3.8 can handle 400hp all day long.

bottom end , i think, had like 125K when it was stock.

Nitr0racing21 02-10-2010 11:41 AM

A 3.8 is built VERY closely to the LS1 I can see 365+ to the wheels since a stock ls1 can see 500+ to the wheel(with fuel mods)

1984camaroz28 02-10-2010 08:05 PM

its easy to make 400rwhp....... with 20Lbs of boost :)

Blacdout96 02-11-2010 09:02 AM

just swap an l32 block in there with the kit and you'll make more then 400 without needing to worry as much

You dont need the block just the internals!!

Blacdout96 02-11-2010 04:16 PM

yeah, but then you gotta crack open one motor to put internals in another, save yoursself the time, find a low mileage block ( or rebuilt short block if your already spending that kind of dough) and drop it in with your top end on there. I woul love this kit, always watned to fiddle with putting a turbo in a car, but I'm not the rich uncle money bags I used to be, time to upgrade to a job that pays comfortably.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just do it right and get a V8?

insurance for one haha also boosting a v6 is a interestingly fun thing to do, same as boosted 4cyl engines. cheap insurance with great gains.

 All I know is my insurance does not consider my Z28 a performance car... but I agree with going against the normal...

My Little old V6 trapped 118mph in the 1/4.. Not bad for a total of 10,000 with the purchase of the car and the mods I did to it!!

More money to do a V8 swap then it is to swap another V6 with turbo. For the V8 you need to get the Tranny and everything else it would take to get a LS1/LT1 into your car then you still have to mod it to make 360-400 rwhp which means more money. You then have to call your insurance company and let them know you have a V8 in your car so they can cover your car in case you get into a accident which charges you more money. Would be alot easier to swap a Forged V6 with a turbo into your car then to completely change the whole drivetrain. You also get better Gas mile with a V6 and it is alot more fun to beat down cars in a V6 Firebird!!
