It's a paid service, and you can uninstall it. If it becomes mandatory or illegal to remove, then perhaps.

If someone steals my car, I'd want it stopped and for them to go to jail. If I steal someone's car, I deserve to be stopped and be sent to jail. It's a wonderful thing.

I agree. At this time it is just GM-Lojack

How is stopping a stolen vehicle "big brother"?

Before someone says it. OnStar is owned by GM, GM is owned 60% by the goverment, the goverment will monitor your driving habits, and they will kill your grandparents.

You said it, not me.

I would be more concerned with it being another electronic device that can shut off your vehicle at a moments notice... and you can ask toyota how well electronic devices work..

BigAls87Z28 02-11-2010 11:43 AM

Maybe OnStar needs to be placed into ALL Toyota's, and Toyota must pay GM some where in the neighborhood of 5 billion a year to cover the additional costs of slowing down run-away Toyotas.

I think it could save more lives. As a representative of "big brother," I've been involved in a few situations in which this could have made my job a lot easier, to say the least. New Jersey's vehicle pursuit policy is very restrictive and, in essence, allows us to chase a car until it stops. And that's only if the car is involved in a serious crime. We can't ram it like you see on the TV. We can't shoot at it. We can't box it in with other cars. Roadblocks must have an avenue of escape (What's the point of THAT?!). And while I'll admit, chasing a car is a rush, there's a million things going on at the same time: Screaming into a radio while trying to control thousands of pounds of car at excessive speeds while watching for every possibility: Someone pulling out of an unseen driveway, someone opening a car door into traffic, the little kid running into the road.

If someone can push a button and shut off a car before this even has to happen, or before it crashes into an innocent person, or one of us, or worse, causes us to crash into an innocent person, I'm all for it.

great service. hope it happens. i will get it for the ion.

Wolfblitz 02-11-2010 05:10 PM

Paul, your onstar is like Satan. Its pure evil and loud as hell lol.

transmaro93 02-11-2010 05:35 PM

i agree its not madatory if it were madatory on all cars and was like this because the govt wanted it that way it would be to much big brother... but other than that its not a bad idea... i agree with electronic devices though... things are getting way to complicated for themselves with cars these days... things like whats happening to Toyota were bound to happen sooner or later... lets not forget about the cruise control recall on the suburbans a while back for catching fire in peoples garages and all the fords that catch fire like its their job... all cars have problems... they keep people like me in a job... you get what you pay for in most cases and where they are built has alot to do with it... audi/VW same company most cars are designed similar to them selves... one is built in mexico and the other in germany.... you tell me who the makes the better car... man i went way out of the way on this one haha

BigAls87Z28 02-11-2010 05:36 PM

Keep blabbering...

transmaro93 02-11-2010 06:11 PM

haha yea i went far out hahaha i do that sometimes... one idea leads to another that leads to another....

BigAls87Z28 02-11-2010 06:21 PM

Next thing you know, you are watching Fox and Friends with your pants around your ankles, crying to the sweet sound of Buy Gold commercials.

transmaro93 02-11-2010 06:33 PM

^^^ haha this made me laugh.. they do have alot of gold commercials... i change the station for them they are annoying.. we better stop before we get this locked...

BigAls87Z28 02-11-2010 06:50 PM

Eh, it will be cut up and sent into our section soon enough.

transmaro93 02-11-2010 07:43 PM

hahahha we need to get together and but heads man its been a while... i missed the last meet

BigAls87Z28 02-11-2010 08:08 PM

Yah really man. Maybe we should install onstar in the TA?

spina74 02-11-2010 08:16 PM

I'd much perfer a self destruct mode, activated via my laptop so if my stolen vehicle enters a chop shop in camden I can blow the car up killing the person who stole it...atleast then I would have some self satisfaction rather then my car getting stripped and sold for parts.

T69SS 02-11-2010 08:26 PM

I think its a good idea, but spina brings up a good point, if they get far enough with the vehicle before you realize its stolen it can still be stripped and ruined
