are people insane ?

ok, well i got my check from uncle SAM, looks like he liked me this year so i went out to look for a firebird , anything between 70s and early 90s v8 something nice for 1500-2200. but these people are crazy with the prices.

a 1991 formula 350 130xxx miles with the driver side ground effects all missing the exhaust system on the ground motor, has no oil and the driver side floor had a 2' by 1 foot rust hole form the window being left open for 8 month....
$3400 firm WTF.. and his reason ..oo Pontiac is close so it's a classic

Then a 1989 formula 305 99xxxx that was 800 dollars a year ago now he wants $4000 and the car been there for 9 years now i remember it when i was a kid.

then a 1992 Iroc v6 auto for 5000..... why he was able to put 19s on it and they cost 3000 for the rims and 1000 for the tires . i told him 500 and you can keep the rims.. no no he said it a classic ????

is it me or something because the economy is in the toilet, no one has money i would think this be the time to buy a used car, when people need the money the most.

but man all i want is a 2nd or 3rd gen with a v8 the runs.. little to no rust or body damage that's it, i don't even care for the inside it can be a bucket and a steering wheel . -.-

mc73nova 02-13-2010 10:26 PM

Its true, people think they have gold. When I had my trucks a year ago and didnt need a cheap car they were everywhere. Now because of the economy people want twice what they should be asking. As far as F-Bodies, you'll have to try to find one on a forum where they know what they are worth. People on eBay and Craigslist use that whole "classic" thing like crazy. I feel like telling them, you dont have a classic, you have a ratty car that barely runs and I just need some damn transportation! There is a guy 5 minutes from my fathers house with a bright yellow Iroc, not sure what he thinks he has but he wants $8,000 for it and Im not just saying this but my T/A is in better shape and it was under $2,000. Sorry for the paragraph but I feel your pain!

if someones selling a 92 v6 iroc they have bigger problems then the 19" rims lol

i flipped an 89 formula last year, bought it for 1900, invested 500 and sold for 3600... it was a really nice car actually just needed a little TLC, but it was SOLID. i bought it sight unseen off ebay with 66k miles

Squirrel 02-13-2010 10:41 PM

lol... i bought my 4th gen for under 4 grand, over 5 years ago, lol at people trying to sell everyday 3rd gens for anything over 500

its just crazy man -.- i seen people get spotless 3rd gens for less then 2000 and low miles -.- i really want a nice car to have my firebird i got now is a DD and has alot of problems so i want a summer/spring car now but man it's hard to find one

JL8Jeff 02-14-2010 09:36 AM

I've been looking for a Camaro in the 67-73 range since last May and the prices are still too high. So much for thinking the hurting economy and a lousy summer last year would prompt people to put stuff up for sale at a reasonable price. Right now we're coming off the recent auction week so everybody raised their price after watching that on tv.

Im gonna take a wild guess and say thats the one that's been sitting on rt206 up in Andover for the past 3 years. The cheese fell off his cracker a long time ago if you know what I mean

I sold my old Pro/Am for $2600 in damn near mint condition with 90k miles on it. The kid who bought it sideswiped a telephone poll, sold it, and someone posted a link to it on craigslist not too long ago, and the guy who bought it off the kid I sold it to wanted $4,000 firm, with telephone poll dent in the 1/4 and all.

Mike 02-14-2010 09:58 AM

the cool thing about owning something is that you can do what you want with it, you can list it for sale for any price you want, or you can take it and donate it or junk it.... ITS YOURS

if you don't like someones price, just move on.

Featherburner 02-14-2010 10:08 AM

Everyone thinks someone else's car should be dirt cheap BUT their car is worth more when they sell it. It's just the way of the world. Look around on here, broken cars asking top dollar.

 Right. I'd take a nice clean well optioned 91-92 GTA or Z28 over a slow, cookie cutter run of the mill LT1 4thgen any day of the week, some people like what they like but what's so special about a 93-94 Fbody? Absolutely nothing aside from the supposed ego that comes with it(which is comical).***For the record I'm just busting balls, I know you hate 3rdgens...I must defend my brethren. :D

Anyway, prices with 3rdgens are weird, some people think they've been touched by God regardless of the condition, others have a clue as to what they're worth. Unfortunately people see SO many clapped out, junked ones for $800 that they start to think that EVERY ONE should be priced that way. Since there are fewer and fewer nice ones the one that have survived are getting top dollar.

I still feel bad for what I paid for mine....I felt like I should have been charged with grand theft auto, lol. The mileage is high(quite frankly the motor is a ticking time bomb even though it's still running well) but you could barely buy the procharger for what the price I got the car for, so there ARE deals out there...you just have to find them.

T69SS 02-14-2010 10:20 AM

Yea, it was the same way when i sold my Mustang and was looking for a truck. I sold a near perfect 99 Mustang GT with 99k on it for 3,000. I started looking at 04 - 08 F150's and the prices were insane! Like everyone has said, people always think that their cars are worth more

Hah! I'd like to see a 305 with such a unique ignition system like the optispark, and awesome reverse cooling!

Original to boot.

Heh..

A stock turbo car is bad ass no matter what gen Fbod it is though. 8-)

Says the person that has a oh-so-wonderful 3.4  Please............................................ ..............................:moon:

If it wasn't for the advances in the 3rdgens and the end of the smog era the 4thgens wouldn't have been what they were.

BTW, what generation outsold the other? Oh oh....yeah....now sit down and be quiet....:wink:

What generation had more available combinations and options?

Stop now....:D

LOL
this is so true, I know people who bought the Fbody ( or what ever, alot to be mustangs!!!) for like a Grand maybe 2, they dump useless 500-maybe 1000 in the car on JCWhitney ***** still broke and rattly and then say they got top dallor custom car and want 4G's when it finaly breaks and they cant afford to fix it....

But on the note some people want $$$ so bad they will sell dirt, guy on craigs list got 76 or 75 all orignal and nice, want 5,000....slamming deal i went to look and have been thinking of breaking the bank for it ( just not a smart thing for me right now)

But then others want $$$$ so bad that they try to sell 3x its worth....Crazy, guy on craigs got 87, trashed...for 2500.00...

i am like WHATTTTTTTTT...makes me want to call them or go see the car just to tell them how insane they really are...

but we all want Top $$$ for ours, just dont want to pay top $$$ for someone elses.

i say you keep looking and hold your money untill you find what you want at a price you want- they are out there....

and let the craziess suffer with a car for sale sign and no one coming...

ws6 jim 02-14-2010 02:34 PM

2nd Gen outsold all.

sweetbmxrider 02-14-2010 03:36 PM

eh its quite rare you get what you ask for. throw the price on the high side, get low balled, meet in the middle. how it usually goes for me.
