thank you email after an interview
what should i put as the subject?.. i would write a snail mail letter, but they discuss interviewees on fridays so i dont wanna take the chance that it wont get there... TIA

Thank you for your time and consideration?

"interview follow up"
or "additional information" and then tell them something you may or may not have mentioned to strengthen your application, in that same e-mail, say thank you. |
Thank You or Thank you for your time is just fine.
Follow up with snail mail too. That extra personal step is good. In both, briefly (as in a few sentences or less) recap what you spoke about and why you'd be a good fit. I actually use 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 off white heavy bond paper for the hard copy letter. It forces me to be succinct, and it appears a bit more personal than 8.5x11 white. |
got a call back, go in for 2nd interview tomorrow

interview went great, this time it was with the head of HR... should i send another letter or do they kinda assume im interested since i came back?
|
Different or same person? I think there's a very slim chance it would do any harm.

I dunno, I've NEVER sent a thank you note after an interview, whether by email or snail mail. I've never called to thank them after an interview either. And yet, I've been offered just about every job I interviewed for. Maybe it's different since I was never really in the business world, but in academics, retail, service, seasonal, etc, never ever sent a thank you letter.

In this market anything to differentiate yourself from the other candidates, in a good way, is paramount. I don't know how academics works (my experience education is a whole different world), but in the business world personal touch can (meaning not always) go a long way. And it costs very little in time and effort. List it under can only help. Assuming you don't screw it up like not proof reading, etc..
|
A thank you note shows you are a good communicator and that you are professional. Send anyone you interview with a thank you letter once if you are hoping to get the job. If you interview with them twice it is not necessary and can make you look too desperate.
